2003 Mazda 6
The new 2003 Mazda 6 is billed as the authentic sports
sedan and has replaced the stodgy Mazda 626 compact
sedan. This is a 4-door mid-size car designed to be
a comfortable ride with the heart of a sports car for
drivers who want a blend of power and performance with
sedan comfort.
The designers of the Mazda 6 were tasked with embodying
the companies Zoom-Zoom spirit and the result is an
automobile representative of innovation in performance
and technology, delivering distinct styling and offering
a wealth of amenities.
The Mazda 6 is intended as a flagship vehicle and a
lot of care has been put into it to give it distinction.
This is true whether you go for the Mazda 6 i or the
sporty Mazda 6 s.
Under the Hood
Two engine options are available for the Mazda 6. The
first is the spirited 160-horsepower (at 6000rpm) 2.3-liter
4-cyl engine that powers the Mazda 6 I with all of 155lb-ft
of torque at 4000rpm. The second option is the lively
220-horsepower, 192lb-ft 3.0-liter V-6 driving the Mazda
6 s. This engine reaches its peak of 220 hp at 6300rpm
while it has max torque at 5000. Both these engines
come with a 5-speed manual transmission but the trademarked
Sport AT transmission, which allows manual shifting
off the electronically controlled 4-speed transmission,
is also avialable.
Zoom Zoom being the key, the focus is on a consumer
who wants the best handling and control that today's
technology can provide. With this control in mind Mazda
has installed 17-inch wheels as standard equipment as
well as power assist-ventilated front and solid rear
disc brakes (four-wheel, four-sensor, three-channel
ABS and EBD optional).
Sporty exterior styling includes aerodynamic and power
output enhancement details such as dual exhaust, sculpted
front air dam, side sill extensions and rear apron and
spoiler with an integral center high-mounted brake light.
Standard Features, Options Packages and Style
Like the more conservative Mazda 626 that this car
is replacing, interior amenities abound with a range
of luxury levels that can include standard air conditioning,
cruise control, an assortment of power features including
mirrors, windows, steering and door locks, and an AM/FM/CD
player.
Optional add-ons include such luxurious features as
power-adjustable, leather-upholstered front bucket seats,
a stereo upgrade including a 6-CD changer and, for summer
cruising, a power sunroof.
