2003 Mazda MPV reviews and buying guide.

2003 Mazda MPV resources:

2003 Mazda MPV

The Mazda MPV minivan is one of the smallest and safest on the market. This year the 2003 Mazda MPV was given a quadruple 5-star crash-test rating, the highest available, indicative of safety for all passenger and driver seating positions.

The MPV is equipped with a V6 engine based on a Ford design, its parent company, which was introduced last year. The MPV, alone in the industry, has dual-sliding doors with roll-down windows and it seats 7, two in the front on bucket seats, two in the second row on bucket seats that can slide together to make a double-seater bench and, finally, a third row with room for three. The third-row seat folds into the floor, providing extensive cargo-room that can be easily accessed through the rear doors.

The 2003 Mazda MPV comes in a base LX or up-level ES model.

Under the Hood

Standard on the MPV is a 3.0-liter DOHC V6 capable of 200 hp at 6200rpm and 200lb-ft of torque at 3000 rpm. They designed this MPV to bring the Zoom-Zoom Mazda motto to the minivan class through a level of power and performance that transcends the usual minivan boundaries.

This powerful engine is shared with the Tribute SUV and it has some interesting innovations and characteristics. For example, more than 90% of its maximum torque can be obtained from 1,800 through 5,500 RPM, allowing confident entry onto freeways, effortless passing ability, and a surprising ability to keep up with sports coupes when the light turns green. This improved performance comes from carefully selected aggressively tuned gear ratio. The Slope Control system moderates the smoothness of the transmission by preventing unnecessary shift changes when climbing.

Dual-front airbags and antilock brakes are standard safety enhancement features on all Mazda Trucks, regardless of model or trim level. 235/75R15 all-terrain white-letter tires with full spare are standard on the Dual Sport models

Standard Features, Options Packages and Style

Although there are two trim levels, the vast majority of interior trim features are included on the base LX model. Highlights include front air conditioning, cruise control, cloth upholstery, interior air filter, tilt steering wheel with radio controls for the AM/FM/CD player and an overhead console for a start. Power features like the windows, mirrors, door locks, steering and remote keyless entry are all controlled at the touch of a button and assorted other amenities are also included. ES adds leather upholstery, rear A/C, a power driver seat and a audio system upgrade.
The options list is extensive with items like a power sunroof, DVD player, MP3 player and much more.
