2003 Mazda MX-5 Miata SE
The Mazda Miata is a favorite of critics and consumers
alike. The Miata has been named one of Car and Driver
magazine's "10 Best" every year it has been
eligible Automobile magazine's "All Stars"
list eight times and Road & Track magazine has named
it one of the five "World's Best Cars".
Consumers have made it a huge sales success for Mazda
with excellent figures every year: collectors groups
meet to show off their treasured versions of this young
classic! It is clear that the designers at Mazda hit
the nail on the head with the Miata. The 2003 Mazda
MX-5 Miata SE (Special Edition) is the same basic vehicle
with careful enhancements that add value without jeopardizing
the winning formula that seems to be a combination of
exquisite styling, refined road manners and solid performance.
Under the Hood
The Miata continues to offer a classic front-engine/rear-wheel
drive layout with a free-revving, fuel-injected 1.8-liter
DOHC 16-valve, four-cylinder engine. It puts out 142
hp at 7000rpm and 125lb-ft of torque at 5500, which,
with the added boost of 2001's innovative variable valve
intake cylinder head, is more than sufficient to punch
this peppy little low-slung convertible around.
Four-wheel double wishbone suspension and optional
antilock disk brakes combine with a limited-slip differential
to make the Miata an incredibly fun drive with virtually
no lean in corners and agile and responsive steering.
Standard Features, Options Packages and Style
The Miata offers a choice between a Base and an up-level
LS edition, both of which have respectable essential
interior amenities taken care of.
The Base comes with air conditioning, power steering,
cloth upholstery on bucket seats, power mirrors and
windows and antenna, and AM/FM/CD player, tachometer,
intermittent wipers, rear defogger and more.
Adding to the Base, the LS offers cruise control, leather
upholstery, power door locks, remote keyless entry and
an impressive modular Bose audio system with automatic
speed sensing volume control and a 6-disc CD changer.
Aluminum foot pedals, Special Edition badging and floor
mats, a black leather Nardi® steering wheel (two
tone silver and black on the Blazing Yellow version),
and aluminum-like interior trim pieces (center panel,
meter rings, inner door handles and shift plate bezel)
top off the unique interior detailing.
