2003 Mercedes-Benz C200 reviews and buying guide.

2003 Mercedes-Benz C200 resources:

2003 Mercedes-Benz C200-Class

The 2003 Mercedes C200 series, a subset of the C-Class, have the three least powered, or perhaps, least high-powered, cars in the extensive Mercedes-Benz stable. It includes the 2003Kompressor Sports Coupe, which has a startlingly powerful 1.8-liter with some tricks up its sleeve, the 2003 C-240 Sedan and the 2003 C240 Sport Wagon, which share the same 2.6-liter V6powerplant.

This series of cars is designed to accessible to a wider range of customer than the other Mercedes lines. However, they are nevertheless packed with a high level of technological innovation, a solid selection of standard equipment and a broad range of exclusive Mercedes optional add-ons.

Under the Hood

The 1.8-liter 16-valvedohc V6 in the C230Kompressor pumps out 189 hp at 5800 rpm and has 192 lb-ft of torque at 3500 to 5000 rpm, because it is supercharged andintercooled.

The C240 line has a 2.6-liter V6. This engine puts out 168hp at 5700rpm, 177lb-ft of torque and is teamed, as in the C230, with an aggressive 6-speed manual transmission or a sophisticated 5-speed automatic. The 5-speed automatic has two reverse gears and a winter mode feature for added maneuverability on takeoff in snow or ice. An optional feature is a driver-adaptive electronic 5-speed with Touch Shift, which allows the driver to manually shift by nudging the shift lever left or right from the Drive position.

Both active and passive safety enhancements are in place on all C-Class cars. Active safety includes such items as Antilock Brakes with Brake Assist, the Electronic Stability Program antiskid/traction control system and 8 standard airbags including dual front, side impact and head protection curtains.

Standard Features, Options Packages and Style

The features and options available for the C-Class are as advanced and sophisticated as the engine, performance and safety features. Standards fittings include cruise control, automatic climate control, heated power mirrors with turn signals, power windows and door locks and remote keyless entry using theSmartkey system.

Electronic systems include AM/FM/weatherband/cassette, trip computer, outside-temperature indicator and a universal garage-door opener, automatic headlights,  and much more.

Optional add-ons include details like wood interior trim or a "Distronic" radar system that maintains a constant distance with the car in front.
