2003 Mercedes-Benz CLK-Class
The 2003 Mercedes CLK Class is their mid-luxury level
sport coupe class. With four entries that include two
Coupes and two convertible Cabriolets and withpowertrain
profiles dictating the model number, as usual, we have
the CLK320s, the CLK500 and the CLK430. The cars are
all high-powered, favored with sophisticated performance
technologies, and in the case of the Cabriolets, enhanced
by quick-moving automatic retractable roofs.
These cars match the Mercedes CLK-Class line in terms
of trim-level, one echoed in the SLK-Class, the mid-level
sports car line. Standard amenities are quite generous
and the range of options is substantial for Mercedes-Benz
in general, allowing customers to trick out a car with
thousands of dollars worth of high-level optional add-ons
that include advanced electronics, special interior
upholsteries and other passenger-comfort related technologies
like Drive Dynamic seats that adjust to provide firmer
localized support in corners; putting extra pressure
in the area of the seat that you lean into with the
car’s motion. These kind of subtle comfort enhancements
mean that the 2003 Mercedes-Benz CLK-Class has a level
of personal comfort comparable to that of any model
available.
Under the Hood
The CLK 320 Coupe and Cabriolet share a 3.2-liter V6
that puts out 215hp at 5700rpm and 229lb-ft of torque
at 3000. The next one up in price, the CLK500 Coupe,
has the largest engine in the Class, a 5-liter 24-valve
V8 with 302hp at 5600rpm and 339lb-ft of torque at 2700.
Finally, at the top level by price, but with a middle
sized engine, is the CLK430 Cabriolet, which by the
model number, contains a 4.3-liter engine. This V8 has
275hp and 295lb-ft of torque, a serious amount of power.
These models all contain extensive and innovative control
and performance technologies. These include active and
passive safety systems, both for avoiding accidents
and for mitigating harm when they do occur. The other
technologies include power management systems, which
maximize the availability of power at all levels of
the engine range. Mercedes specific innovations like
Optimum Gear, for example, feature the capability of
improved handling and takeoff in winter conditions.
Passive safety systems, like airbags and belts, are
both advanced and generously fitted as standard equipment.
Standard Features, Options Packages
and Style
All the Mercedes cars are loaded with standard interior
amenities. The CLK class, as a line of luxury two-door
coupes and convertibles, is no exception and it enjoys
such standard features asTeleAid emergency assistance,
10-way power front bucket seats, automatic climate control,
Bose AM/FM/CD player with controls on the leather-wrapped
steering wheel.
Options like "Distronic" radar cruise control,
the Motorola V60 hands free phone, Keyless Go, cashmere
interiors and much more can be chosen to grace the CLK
line.
