2003 Mitsubishi Diamante
The highest level of luxury in the Mitsubishi stable
is top be found in the 2003 Mitsubishi Diamante. Available
with a range of trim levels that offer sport or luxury
oriented styling in addition to the base ES model. The
VR-X has a refined sport bucket seat design to keep
you in place while pushing its 210 hp engine to the
full.
Mitsubishi designed these various models to be able
to appeal to a wide ranging audience of receptive buyers
and, regardless whether you choose to go with the sport
VR-X, the luxury LS or the base ES, this near-luxury
sedan entry will surprise you with all that it has to
offer. Performance, reliability, interior amenity, safety
and power are all addressed on the Diamante.
Under the Hood
For a start, this full-size sedan has an engine as
large as any vehicle Mitsubishi produces, with the exception
of the full-size 7-seater Montero SUV. A 3.5-liter overhead
cam V6, it gets 205 hp at 2500 and 231 lb-ft of torque
at 4000. Mileage isn't too bad at 18/25 mpg (city/hwy).
For a little extra power, choose the VR-X, which adds
5hp for a 210hp total.
However, the key difference between the VR-X and the
other two Diamante models is the presence of sport-suspension
and a number of styling features. In terms of performance,
this may not seem much different from the other models
but the fact is that they are already sports cars at
heart.
Antilock brakes are standard on all models, along with
dual front airbags, alloy wheels and a full-size spare
215/60VR16 tire. The XLS adds fog lights while the VR-X
also has traction control.
Standard Features, Options Packages and Style
The Mitsubishi Diamante is near-luxury vehicles and
has standard equipped interior amenity that reflects
this class of car. Automatic climate control, cruise
control, power windows, doors, mirrors, steering, an
AM/FM/CD player, remote keyless entry and a power antenna
are standard.
The XLS adds a significant degree of luxury including
such items as leather upholstered, power seats, leather-wrapped
steering wheel with radio controls, a one-touch power
sunroof, 210W 10-speaker Mitsubishi/Infinity audio system
and a universal garage-door opener. The VR-X has all
but the leather upholstery but it also adds futuristic
whiteface sport gauges and instrumentation.
Options include a Leather Upholstery package or a 6CD
changer audio system upgrade.
