2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse reviews and buying guide.

2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse resources:

2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse

The 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse is a sporty coupe, while the 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder is a convertible. They both possess first rate acceleration, handling and road-holding capabilities and come in GS, GT and new top of the line GTS models. Finally, a base model of the Eclipse Coupe, the RS, is available.

These are both stylish rides that will look good, drive well and suit a variety of purposes. Whether you are looking for a convertible to cruise on down the strip or a hatchback coupe for the weekend getaway for two, some version of the Mitsubishi Eclipse can fit the bill.

Under The Hood

Regardless of the model you buy, the engine choices are fairly straightforward. The RS and GS models have 4-cylinder engines and come standard with a 5-speed manual transmission. All models come with optional 4-speed automatics, which, with the GS and up, have a manual shift gate. There are a few other small distinctions. The GT and GTS models are V6 dohc equipped, but the GT Coupe has only 200 hp compared to 210 on the GTS Coupe and both the GT and GTS Spyders.

Dual-front airbags are standard safety features on all models, while front-side airbags and ABS brakes are standards for the GTS, but not available on the other models. Other drivability features are added on to the base model to complement the GTS; a rear spoiler, fog lights, a sport suspension and polished alloy wheels.

Standard Features and Optional Add-ons

As with the engine choices, many different standards are added as you go from base model to GTS. Options can be added on top of these to make a personlized vehicle loaded with modern conveniences.

The base RS Coupe has a standard features that one usually finds in the add-on section; air conditioning, AM/FM/CD player, cloth upholstery, buckets seats in front, automatic off headlights, alloy wheels, an anti-theft system, and power windows, door locks, mirrors and steering.

Go up through the ranks of the models and the Eclipse becomes steadily more loaded with standards. The GS adds cruise control, styling enhancements and has the convertible and all it's features, for example, the power roof. Fog lights, a rear spoiler and bigger tires round out this version. The GTS level has a power sunroof, leather upholstery, an audio system upgrade and a 6-way power driver seat..

The options packages are specific to each of the modelas and allow the features listed above to be added to those where they don't come standard. The Sun and Sound pakckage for instance, can be added to the GS and GT Coupe models and includes an upgrade to the Infinity sound system and power sunroof.
