2003 Toyota 4Runner
Since its introduction since 1985, 4Runner has been
Toyota's high-volume, high-image sport utility vehicle
(SUV) leader with sales of over 1.2 million units. Setting
the standard in the mid-size SUV class for ruggedness,
dependability, and day-in day-out versatility, the 4Runner
delivers off-road capability with style and sportiness.
Numerous technological advancements enhance the new
4Runners capabilities as it enters its fourth
generation. The result is a 2003 Toyota 4Runner that
is larger and roomier, delivers more power, enjoys improved
fuel efficiency and offers superior ride comfort.
Under the Hood
A larger and roomier vehicle, the new 4Runner needed
more power. An all-new 4.0-liter V6 aluminum engine
that has variable valve timing with intelligence (VVT-i)
provides this power. Toyota's first all-aluminum engine
on a light truck, this new lightweight power source
has improved performance and increased fuel economy
through a new linkless electronic throttle control system
with intelligence (ETCS-i). This new V6 delivers 245
hp at 5,200 rpm and generates one of the highest six-cylinder
torque capabilities in the mid-SUV segment with 282
lb.-ft. of torque at 3,800 rpm. 18/21 mpg for all 2WD
models and 17/21 for all 4WD grades mean good enough
mileage ratings for the class to have the new engine
EPA-certified as a Low Emission Vehicle (LEV).
4Runner also offers a heavy duty high-torque performance
4.7-liter i-Force V8 engine for all models. This features
ETCS-i to help produce 235 hp at 4,800 rpm and 320 lb.-ft.
of torque at 3,400. An interesting new feature on the
4Runner is a cranking hold system that keeps the starter
engaged from the time the ignition switch is turned
on until complete combustion is detected. This boosts
the reliability of the starting system by helping to
prevent starter overrun and freeing the driver from
holding the key in the start position until the engine
turns over.
Standard safety equipment include dual front airbags,
antilock 4-wheel disc brakes, brake assist an antiskid
system while other items are optional including front-side
airbags, curtain-side airbags and daytime running lights.
Standard Features, Options Packages and Style
Whether you choose the SR5, SR5 Sport or Limited edition
4Runners, you can expect a high level of luxury. The
SR5 sport, designed to be an active sporty model, has
a leather-wrapped steering wheel with radio controls
to add to the extensive assortment of interior amenities
on the base SR5.

you could think of; satellite navigation, automatic
climate control, heated multi-way power leather seats,

in addition to the standard cruise control, power everything
