2003 VW Jetta
The reason you see so many VW Jettas on the road is because
the series has been enormously popular since its introduction.
And the reasons for that are many. The Jetta has precision
engineering, a high level of comfort, a modest mark
of style and an advanced safety configuration. In addition,
there are a plethora of models to choose from. Perhaps
that begins to explain things.
The four-door 2003 VW Jetta is offered in a total of seven
models, with four engines spread over the lineup. GL
and GLS trims are available with two of the four engines,
while theuplevel GLI and GLX models combine extreme
comfort with the power of a V6 engine.
Under the Hood
The first of the engines in terms of performance is a 2.0-liter
4-cylinder model capable of 115 horsepower and 122 lb-ft
of torque. The second engine steps up the performance
level. It is a 1.8-liter 4-cylinder motor with 180 horsepower
and 174 lb-ft of torque. Jetta TDI models are the efficiency
kings. They are equipped with a 1.9-liter, in-line,
turbo-charged direct injection 4-cylinder diesel engine,
generating 90 horsepower and 149 lb-ft of torque. For
fuel economy, the TDI tops the charts with a rating
of 42/49 mpg (city/hwy) for manuals, 34/45 mpg (city/hwy)
for automatics.
At the top of the list is a 2.8-liter V6 that pumps out 200
horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque. 4-speed automatic,
5-speed automatic, 5-speed manual and 6-speed manual
are the transmission types that mate to this impressive
lineup of engines. As always, the Jetta is an extremely
safe vehicle. All models have dual front airbags, front
side airbags, curtain side airbags and antilock 4-wheel
disc brakes.
Standard Features, Options Packages and Style
Regardless of the engine or the trim level, prospective Jetta
owners can rest assured that whatever model they choose
will be nicely appointed with standard features. All
models come with air conditioning, a tilt/telescoping
steering wheel, cruise control, height-adjustable front
bucket seats, a center console, cupholders, heated power
mirrors, power windows and door locks, remote keyless
entry, an AM/FM/cassette/CD player, a digital clock,
map lights, illuminated visor mirrors, a rear defogger
and more.
Not surprisingly, as you move up the scale of 2003 Jetta trim
levels you get more and more premium appointments. At
the top of the line, the Jetta GLX adds leather upholstery,
heated 8-way power front seats with driver-seat memory,
steering-wheel radio controls, automatic climate control,
a power sunroof, a Monsoon Sound System, a trip computer,
rain-sensing wipers and a rear-window sunshade to the
list.
The 2003 VW Jetta lineup is so varied that there is sure to
be a model for anyone who appreciates high quality and
performance.
