2003 Volvo V40 reviews and buying guide.

2003 Volvo V40 resources:

2003 Volvo V40

The 2003 Volvo V40 Wagon is a sophisticated and versatile vehicle capable of providing a comfortable travel experience for 5 adults over challenging terrain in sturdy and reliable safety. With a full complement of Volvo's virtues, the standard amenities available on the basic model will satisfy consumers.

The V40 wagon offers good value, technological innovation, safety as a foremost consideration and guiding design principle and, in the end, the practical usefulness that comes from a spacious interior, a fuel efficient but more than adequate power source and a strong and durable chassis.

Under the Hood

The V40 shares the potent 1.9-liter 4-cyl of the 4-door S40 Sedan. Capable of 170hp at 5250rpm, it out-does last year's model by 10 hp. 177lb-ft of torque between 1800 and 4800 rpm is the same beefy capability of last year. 4-wheel independent suspension enhances control and road manners while 5-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission makes for smooth acceleration and an untroubled ride. Electronic Brake Distribution (EDB) provides superb antilock braking power.

An optional Climate Package improves the performance of the car in inclement weather conditions using the Dynamic Stability Assistance feature that monitors and compares the rotational speed of all four wheels and uses the engine to reduce torque when traction loss is indicated.

One of the big selling points for Volvo is its identity as a leader in auto safety. This Wagon has comprehensively protective airbag safety package that includes a Side Impact Protection System (SIPS), the Inflatable Curtain (IC) Whiplash Protection Seating System (Whips) and smart dual front airbags (SRS).

Standard Features, Options Packages and Style

Two major options packages offer various features the standard list of items. For example, the Premium Package offers a leather covered gear-shift and hand-brake handle, while the optional Sport package includes 17-inch Galactica alloy wheels, and a new roof-mounted spoiler.

These options all add on to the AM/FM/CD player, cruise control, electronic climate control, three-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel and sporty four dial instrument cluster that comes as standard equipment, among many other interior amenities. Meanwhile, an aggressive egg-crate style grill, new body-color side-moldings and bumpers adorn the exterior.

The final result is the stylish and versatile Volvo V-40 Wagon.
