2004 Acura RL Review:
The Acura RL is a luxury car—enough said. It is available
to people who don’t mind paying a little extra to get a little
extra. With the RL, you keep the legendary dependability of
Honda engineering and add to that more power, comfort and
standard features.
For 2004, there are a few minor equipment revisions to Acura’s
luxury flagship sedan. However, it retains its V6 engine and
the majority of its engineering components. Developed and
tested on high-speed motorways like Germany's famed Nürburgring,
the new Acura RL has no problem with high speeds and tight
turns.
Under the Hood
The V6 engine of the front-wheel drive Acura RL can generate
225 horsepower at 5200 rpm and 231 lb-ft of torque at 2800
rpm. It is mated to an electronically controlled 4-speed automatic
transmission, which employs a Grand Logic System. This system
is designed to reduce up-and-down shifting that other transmissions
often resort to while traveling over steep terrain.
The handling of the RL has always been tight, and 2004 is
no different in this respect. A speed and torque-sensitive,
variable power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering system keeps
response stable and swift at all speeds.
For safety, the Acura RL has you covered. It offers dual
front airbags, front side airbags, antilock 4-wheel disc brakes
and an antiskid system.
Standard Features, Options Packages and Style
The RL has many features and gadgets that make rides comfortable
and pleasant. Things like the standard Acura Navigation System
that now responds to your voice commands and XM Satellite
Radio, with its clear digital signal and its satellite network
of 100 stations you can pick up all across the country, back
this claim up easily enough.
The spacious Acura RL seats five passengers. Some of the
standard features included are leather upholstery, air conditioning
with front and rear automatic controls, a Bose AM/FM/cassette/CD
player with in-dash 6-disc CD changer and the Onstar System.
Filled with gadgets, the 2004 Acura RL certainly uses technology
wisely, rather than haphazardly. And that is a good thing
for everyone involved. Especially drivers.
