2004 Audi A6 allroad quattro Review:
The A6 model is given a real breadth and depth to its diversity
with the existence of two allroad quattro models. Not only
do they share similar powertrains and features with other
A6 models—which, in itself, is quite a thing to brag about—they
also have added versatility with a uniquely engineered driving
dynamic.
To begin with, their standard all-wheel drive quattro system
is built on more than 20 years of innovation. Constantly refined
over the years, quattro sets the standard in systems of its
kind. On top of that, the allroad quattro has a fully pneumatic,
variable-height suspension system that delivers pinpoint control
on highways and a heightened sense of awareness on poorly
maintained side roads.
The result is an A6 wagon that is probably tops in the family
in terms of ruggedness, safety and versatility. It will drive
you and the kids wherever you need to go in a relaxed setting
that rests upon interior comfort features and the peace of
mind of the allroad quattro system.
Under the Hood
There are two 2004 A6 allroad quattro models, and two engines
accompanying each trim. The base 2.7T model uses a 2.7-liter
turbocharged V6 engine with a tough 250 horsepower at 5800
rpm and 258 lb-ft of torque at 1850 rpm. It can be mated to
a 6-speed manual transmission or a 5-speed automatic system
that features a manual shift mode for restless hands.
Uplevel 4.2 models have a real powerhouse under their hoods.
Their engine is a 4.2-liter V8 mated to the aforementioned
5-speed automatic transmission with manual-shift mode. Together,
they allow the A6 allroad quattro to reach 300 horsepower
at 6200 rpm and 280 lb-ft of torque at 3000 rpm.
The V8 is new to the allroad quattro model this year. It
pushes it into the supreme high-performance realm.
With the allroad quattro’s variable suspension, you can manually
choose from four suspension settings to accommodate a range
of road conditions. What more do you have to say about that?
Standard Features, Options Packages and Style
The top-line 4.2 is loaded with standard features. They include
leather upholstery, a memory system covering the driver’s
seat, steering wheel, mirrors and temperature and an in-dash
6-disc CD changer.
An Infotainment Package is an optional group that includes
the OnStar telematics system, a Bose sound system and satellite
radio.
