Used 2004 Audi A6
Buying Guide for the Audi A6:
The Audi A6 is a formidable premium car that has a luxurious
interior, plenty of power and more than a few advanced engineering
components that establish complete control of the road, in
even in poor weather conditions. No wonder the A6 has received
so many distinctions since its inception.
Another interesting and decidedly appealing feature of the
A6 is the sheer number of models it is offered in. There are
sedans and wagons, a top-line 4.2 model with pure heart-thumping
speed, and allroad quattro models, which have height-adjustable
suspension to increase ground clearance (4.2 and allroad quattro
models covered in separate reviews).
However, at the heart of the A6 equation are the sedan and
Avant wagon, offered in two different trims: 3.0 and 2.7T.
This year, Audi makes satellite radio and option with the
new A6.
Under the Hood
The base powertrain has plenty of kick to move you along.
The engine responsible for this is a 3.0-liter V6 model that
pumps out a max of 220 horsepower at 6300 rpm and 221 lb-ft
of torque at 3200 rpm.
Entry-level 3.0 sedans are front-wheel drive, and they use
Audi’s multitronic continuously variable transmission (CVT).
The CVT provides variable drive ratios, plus six preset "gears"
accessed via a manual shift gate or steering-wheel buttons.
This manual mode is particularly useful when downshifting
on steep slopes.
3.0 quattro models and Avant wagons have standard all-wheel
drive. They also use a 5-speed automatic transmission with
a manual-shift mode.
Under the hood of 2.7T models is a 2.7-liter V6 engine that
pumps out 250 horsepower at 5800 rpm and 258 lb-ft of torque
at 1850 rpm. 6-speed manual and 5-speed automatic transmission
with manual-shift mode are both offered.
Standard Features, Options Packages and Style
All 2004 A6 models are simply loaded with features that make
all manner of ride as comfortable as possible. Some of the
names on the list include vinyl/leather upholstery, 12-way
power front bucket seats with power lumbar adjustment, a wood
interior trim and an AM/FM/cassette with in-dash 6-disc CD
changer.
2.7T models can be bolstered with a Luxury Package for 2004.
It adds full leather upholstery, power rear side sunshades
and a manual rear sunshade.
The options don’t stop there, however. Satellite radio, a
navigation system and more can all be had for an added fee.
