Used 2004 Audi TT
Buying Guide for the Audi TT:
It happens all the time. The car in your rearview mirror
catches your eye. Then it whips by you and, for a moment,
you’re simply mesmerized by the form of the vehicle. And then,
just as quickly, it’s gone.
That ultra-cool compact sports car that just left you in
the dust was the Audi TT, instantly hailed as a breakthrough
in vehicle design when it was first introduced. That was only
a few years ago, and the rest of the automotive world is still
struggling to match the innovation of the TT.
But it’s not as if Audi stands pat year after year, letting
them do so. For example, this year’s TT model is given a big
infusion of power with the introduction of an all-new V6 engine.
What was formerly a sports car powered by inline 4-cylinder
engines is now one with rugged V6 strength.
Look out competition.
Under the Hood
There are now three engines with the 2004 Audi TT. Base models
receive a 1.8-liter turbocharged I4 that produces 180 horsepower
at 5500 rpm and 173 lb-ft of torque at 1950 rpm. It uses a
6-speed automatic transmission with a manual shift mode.
Next up on the muscle scale is another 1.8-liter turbocharged
I4. This one, however, powers an all-wheel drive TT to the
effect of 225 horsepower at 5900 rpm and 207 lb-ft of torque
at 2200 rpm.
And then there’s the new V6 engine. It is a 3.2-liter model,
and it will rev up to 250 horsepower at 6300 rpm and 236 lb-ft
of torque at 2800 rpm.
The new V6 engine that pushes the TT to new heights is mated
to an equally new transmission system. It is Audi's new Direct
Shift Gearbox, which is a clutchless manual configuration
that can be set to shift like an automatic.
Standard Features, Options Packages and Style
For 2004, the Audi TT continues to be offered as a four-seat
hatchback coupe and as a two-seat convertible, which they
call the TT Roadster.
A power top is standard on 225-horsepower (I4) and V6 convertibles;
it is optional for the base version. However, all Roadsters
include a heated glass rear window. Newly standard are xenon
headlights.
For options, customers can pick up a navigation system and
a cell phone prep package. But that’s just the tip of the
options iceberg.
