Buick Rendezvous Ultra
2004 Buick Rendezvous Review:
The Buick Rendezvous is a sports touring vehicle, meaning
it is not quite an SUV and not quite a wagon. It lies somewhere
in the middle, offering the ruggedness and safety of a larger
SUV as well as the precise handling and car-like feel of a
smaller car. Available all-wheel drive and a short-and-long-arm
suspension are just two of the features that emphasize the
Rendezvous’ commitment to performance.
The big news for 2004 is the introduction of an all-new Rendezvous
Ultra model (covered in a separate review). It joins the CX
and CXL trims to fill the lineup out to three models. In other
news, the 2004 Rendezvous has new exterior colors, plus new
interior colors and features.
Under the Hood
A 3.4-liter V6 engine is responsible for powering the 2004
Buick Rendezvous. It can generate up to 185 horsepower at
5200 rpm and 210 lb-ft of torque at 4000 rpm. To this engine
is mated a 4-speed automatic transmission with overdrive and
torque converter clutch.
Customers can opt for either front-wheel drive or all-wheel
drive with the Rendezvous. For 2004, the innovative rear suspension
system lets the Rendezvous handle even more like a sedan than
before. The rear suspension utilizes cast aluminum knuckle
assemblies, cross members and upper and lower control arms
for minimal unsprung weight. In between each lower control
arm and the rear-suspension cross member are curved coil springs
that absorb force without rattling the entire vehicle.
Standard Features, Options Packages and Style
The 2004 Buick Rendezvous displays its versatility with a
moveable seating setup. Second-row seating choices are either
a three-person split bench (for seven-passenger seating) or
optional twin bucket seats. Both types have reclining backrests
and move forward and backward. The optional third-row seat
also folds flush with the floor to provide ample cargo room.
Dark Steel Blue Metallic is the new exterior color and Light
Neutral replaces oak on the inside. Chrome trim accents, color-keyed
door switches and leather seats in new monotone finish are
other upgrades from last year.
A GPS navigation radio is also available for the first time
in 2004. Coupled with the standard OnStar system (CXL model),
it keeps drivers abreast of their position no matter what
corner of the earth they’re on.
