Used 2004 Chevrolet Blazer
Buying Guide for the Chevrolet Blazer:
Another day, another dollar. The Chevrolet Blazer has been
around for so long that it doesn’t get too excited or, conversely,
too worried about things. It lets drivers handle the excitement
and leaves the worrying to competitors.
The long-standing Blazer is a mid-size sport utility vehicle
that has undergone more than a few changes in its life. However,
through it all it has remained highly versatile and rugged,
offering SUV safety and performance at a reasonable price.
For 2004, Blazer is offered in two or four-door standard
configurations. It is also available in the popular low-stance
sporty Xtreme (two-door) and the high-stance ZR2 (two-door),
which is designed for the serious off-road enthusiast.
Under the Hood
All models feature a 4.3-liter Vortec V6 engine with 190
horsepower at 4400 rpm and 250 lb-ft of torque at 2800 rpm.
Its multi-port fuel injection features a central fuel injector
that delivers a separate flow of fuel to six individual hybrid
injectors for better performance and improved emissions.
Four-door models have standard 4-speed automatic transmission,
while two-door models use 5-speed manual. Rear-wheel drive
and Autotrac four-wheel drive configurations are both available.
The ZR2 package raises the Blazer’s height and gives it a
heavy-duty wide stance chassis. It also provides heavy-duty
suspension, rugged Bilstein shocks, heavy-duty differential
gears and axles and off-road tires. All of this combines to
make the ZR2 a premier off-roading model.
Standard Features, Options Packages and Style
If you like a little spice in your vehicle, your best bet
is the sporty Xtreme model. It has low-profile tires and five-spoke
aluminum wheels, lower bodyside cladding with wheel flares,
a lower front fascia, deep tint windows and “Xtreme” badging.
In other words, it has a style all its own.
Two-door Blazers have a 100.5-inch wheelbase and 60.6 cubic
feet of cargo volume. Four-doors have a 107-inch wheelbase
and 67.8 cubic feet of cargo volume. Either way, you have
a tough SUV with plenty of room on the inside for passengers
(five with the two-door and up to six with four-door models)
and extra cargo.
For 2004, four-door Blazers provide optional steering wheel
mounted radio controls, which lets drivers keep their hands
on the wheel and their eyes on the road. They also have a
deluxe overhead console with the Homelink security system.
