Used 2004 Chevrolet Colorado
Buying Guide for the Chevrolet Colorado:
Like its name suggests, the all-new Chevrolet Colorado is
a rugged truck. It is designed to be a modern interpretation
of what a pickup needs. As Chevy puts it, the Colorado is
not a smaller version of its full-size Silverado, nor a revised
design of the TrailBlazer SUV. It sits on its own distinct
body-on-frame platform, conceived to be the best mid-size
truck on the road.
In reality, the Colorado rests in the compact pickup truck
segment. It is offered in regular cab, extended cab and crew
cab forms. The extended cab has dual rear-hinged back doors
and seats up to five. The four-door crew cab seats up to six.
It has a 5-ft-long cargo box, while other models have a 6-ft
bed.
Base models are offered in standard form, or with two performance
packages. The Z71 off-road suspension package gives the Colorado
an elevation lift, while the ZQ8 sport-suspension gives 2WD
Colorados 17-inch wheels instead of 15-inch wheels.
Under the Hood
The new Colorado is equipped with an equally new set of inline
engines. The new inline 4-cylinder and 5-cylinder engines
feature the same all-aluminum construction, dual overhead
camshafts and four-valves-per-cylinder technology, as well
as electronic throttle control, exhaust cam phasing, coil-on-plug
ignition, direct-mount accessories and easy maintenance features.
Base models come with the 2.8-liter I4. It delivers 175 horsepower
at 5600 rpm and 185 lb-ft of torque at 2800 rpm. However,
they can be upgraded to use the 3.5-liter I5, which produces
220 horsepower at 5600 rpm and 225 lb-ft of torque at 2800
rpm.
The brand-spankin' new Colorado also offers several traction-assistance
options. The available shift-on-the-fly 4WD system is activated
with a dash-mounted switch. A segment-exclusive automatic
locking differential is available on both 2WD and 4WD models.
Standard Features, Options Packages and Style
As a new model, the Colorado is expected to lead the way
with fresh standard features. This it does. Available for
the first time on a GM pickup are head-protecting curtain
side airbags that cover all seating rows.
There are plenty of options available for the Colorado's
debut year. Many are reserved for uplevel LS models, but Base
trims still offer a few.
Among the names that pop out are running boards, satellite
radio, a sliding rear window and leather upholstery (crew
cabs).
