Used 2004 Chevrolet Corvette
Buying Guide for the Chevrolet Corvette:
The Corvette has been at the forefront of automotive excellence
since 1953. Last year, it celebrated this half-century of
success with a special 50th Anniversary Special
Edition Package. This year, commemorative editions for each
Corvette model—coupe, convertible and Z06—are offered to celebrate
the racing success of this perennial speedster.
The Corvette has been a top-line model both on and off the
racetrack for years. In 2002, the Corvette C5 had nine wins
in ten American Le Mans Series races, all the while taking
the 2002 GTS Manufacturer Champion and GTS Team Champion awards.
The commemorative editions pay homage to this C5-R racing
program, offering special paint, trims and polished wheels.
Under the Hood
Power is a given with the Corvette, as it always has been.
Coupe and convertible models feature a 5.7-liter V8 engine.
It is mated to either 4-speed automatic transmission or 6-speed
manual, and features ridiculous performance ability: 350 horsepower
at 5200 rpm and 360 lb-ft of torque at 4000 rpm (375 lb-ft
of torque with manual transmission).
The Z06 has a 5.7-liter V8 engines as well, though it can
generate an incredible 405 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 400
lb-ft of torque at 4800 rpm. 6-speed manual transmission is
standard.
The Z06 was tested at Germany's fabled Nürburgring racetrack
to give it an even better ride. The result is new shock absorber
valving for optimum performance. 2004 Coupe and convertible
Corvettes continue to feature Magnetic Selective Ride Control,
which uses a revolutionary damper design that controls wheel
and body motion with magneto-rheological fluid in the shocks.
Standard Features, Options Packages and Style
Hatchback coupes have a removable roof panel, convertibles
have a manual fabric top and a heated rear glass window and
the Z06 is a hardtop model. All three have two doors and seat
two passengers, right up front where the action is. The coupe
has the most cargo volume of them all, a surprising 24.8 cubic
feet.
Style is a given on the outside, and comfort and a performance-based
cockpit are similarly guaranteed on the inside. Information
is presented in an easy-to-read manner, as makers realize
you’ll need to keep your eyes on the fast-approaching horizon.
Some of the standard features found on the 2004 model include
alloy wheels, a tilt leather-wrapped steering wheel, leather
upholstery, 6-way power seats and a Bose AM/FM/CD player.
