2004 Chevrolet S-10 - Reviews - Buying Guide

2004 Chevrolet S-10 Buying Resources:

2004 Chevrolet S-10 Review:

Eventually, the Chevrolet S-10 will be replaced by the all-new Colorado, a compact pickup that is slightly bigger. To make way for the new Colorado, Chevrolet has decided to slowly wean the public off the S-10.

Therefore, for 2004 the S-10 will only be offered as a four-door crew cab. This highly versatile pickup has always been a favorite among buyers, and serves as a good model to ride off into the sunset with.

The S-10 crew cab has standard four-wheel drive, four conventional side doors and a 4.6-ft cargo bed in the back. It will continue to be as rugged and manageable as before, especially as it wants to go out with a good legacy.

Under the Hood

The sole powertrain with the 2004 S-10 is a 4.3-liter Vortec V6 engine, able to muster 180 horsepower at 4400 rpm and 245 lb-ft of torque at 2800 rpm. The engine has such practical features as roller rocker arms, a roller timing chain, powdered metal timing chain sprocket and a number of extended-life features like platinum-tip spark plugs, precise engine timing, extended-life engine coolant and a single accessory drive belt. It is mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission.

The fuel rating for the S-10 crew cab is 15/19 (city/highway). Ready for hauling, the 2004 S-10 has a maximum payload of 1,111 lbs.

S-10’s standard 4WD Insta-trac system features an electronic shift transfer case for shift-on-the-fly capability by using an instrument panel-mounted push button. Insta-trac also features a 4WD Low setting for more demanding 4WD situations.

Standard Features, Options Packages and Style

With four full doors, the S-10 can handle five adult passengers without a problem. It is fitted with a number of convenient features like delayed interior lighting, which keeps the dome lamp lit for 15 seconds or until the ignition is turned on after closing the front doors.

Other standard features for 2004 include air conditioning, a tilt leather-wrapped steering wheel, cruise control, cloth upholstery, heated power mirrors, power windows and door locks, remote keyless entry and an AM/FM/CD player.

An available ZR5 Appearance Package gives the S-10 Spectra Gray wheel flares and bumpers, 15-inch cast-aluminum five-spoke wheels, side steps, bed rails, roof rack and ZR5 decals.
