2004 Chevrolet Tracker - Reviews - Buying Guide

2004 Chevrolet Tracker Buying Resources:

2004 Chevrolet Tracker Review:

Chevrolet’s smallest sport utility vehicle is no longer offered as a two-door model. Instead, only four-door versions will be available for 2004, giving the compact SUV a bit more of a presence on the road.

Though small, the Tracker is every bit a Chevy—that is, it is known for its toughness and durability. Like larger models, the Tracker uses a steel ladder-type frame. This frame, in addition to a high ground clearance, gives the Tracker many off-road advantages over models with a unibody construction.

One of the main selling points of the Chevrolet Tracker is its package, which includes a relatively nice price tag. Combining ruggedness with on-road performance, plus safety and comfort features, the Tracker can keep a wide variety of people satisfied with its offerings.

Under the Hood

Like all sport utility vehicles, the Tracker would not be complete without a choice of two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations. This is particularly noteworthy with the ZR2 model, which uses a 4x4 transfer case that offers shift-on-the-fly four-wheel drive at speeds of up to 60 mph.

The engine with all three trim levels is a 2.5-liter V6 that puts out 165 horsepower at 6500 rpm and 162 lb-ft of torque at 4000 rpm.

The Tracker uses power rack-and-pinion steering and a responsive rear suspension featuring a five-link design to provide exceptional road feel and a greater tread width for sure-footed control and cornering. The Tracker also features an antiflex bar over the engine compartment to strengthen its body structure.

Standard Features, Options Packages and Style

Each trim level gives the Tracker a distinctive look. Base models have the classic Tracker design—simple and clean. The ZR2 appearance package provides Tracker with a tough-looking attitude, while the LT appearance package radiates a more refined feel.

And though it may be on the small side, the Tracker makes good use of its size. The rear seats comfortably accommodate full-size adults. They can be folded and stowed for up to 44.7 cubic feet (1,266L) of storage space.

The functional equipment doesn’t end there. A hydraulic-assist, swing-out tailgate that opens to the side lets you easily access the storage area. If you still need more space, there are added storage areas in the seat back compartments, door pockets and center console.
