2004 Chrysler Pacifica Review:
Chrysler certainly made waves
when it introduced the PT Cruiser in 2001, and it looks to
do the same with the all-new Pacifica. The Pacifica has such
a mix of uncommon features that Chrysler is laying claim to
an entirely new mode of premium transportation called the
sports tourer.
Just what is a sports tourer,
one might ask? Well, it is basically a new breed of vehicle
that combines the performance of a car with the ruggedness
of an SUV and the roominess of a minivan. Ostensibly a four-door
SUV wagon, the Pacifica manages three rows of seating for
six-passenger capability, plus available all-wheel drive and
an advanced suspension system to make it feel as though you
are driving a sedan. That, in short, is just some of what
a sports tourer offers.
Under the Hood
There is only one trim level
with the new Pacifica, but that should suffice—at least until
the concept of a sports tourer becomes commonplace. Pacifica’s
strength derives from its 3.5-liter V6 engine. It is capable
of dishing out 250 horsepower at 6400 rpm and 250 lb-ft of
torque at 3950 rpm. 4-speed automatic transmission is mated
to this efficient engine, providing seamless shifting. The
available all-wheel drive system provides maximum handling
and feel in inclement weather.
The 2004 Chrysler Pacifica
also has load-leveling rear suspension for smooth rides and
power adjustable pedals with a memory feature. For safety,
the Pacifica comes with dual front airbags, curtain side airbags,
a driver-side knee airbag, antilock 4-wheel disc brakes and
a tire-pressure monitor.
Standard Features, Options
Packages and Style
The Pacifica has three 2-seat
rows to accommodate its passengers. The second and third row
individual seats fold to create a flat-load floor when the
situation calls for more interior room. Comfort is the name
of the interior feeling, as the Pacifica provides standard
rear privacy glass, air conditioning with dual-zone automatic
climate controls, an Infinity AM/FM/CD player, a leather-wrapped
steering wheel with radio controls and much more.
There are plenty of options
to choose from as well. These include leather upholstery,
a navigation system, an in-dash 6-disc/DVD changer, an entertainment
system, a power sunroof and a satellite radio package.
The 2004 Chrysler Pacifica:
defining the new sports tourer segment.
