2004 Chrysler Sebring Coupe Review:
The 2004 Chrysler Sebring
Coupe has arrived. Generally speaking, coupes are built for
style and performance. They often feel more connected to the
road and to the machinery of driving, while on the outside
they like to flaunt a bit of attitude. Free from the practical
concerns of a sedan, a coupe can focus on pure pleasure.
What the Sebring coupe attempts to do, however, is also maintain
practicality. It combines head-turning style with genuinely
useful passenger and luggage space. With two-doors and room
in the rear for five, it serves the maxim of effective transportation
quite well. Offering two trim levels, two available engines
and a host of options packages and individual items to choose
from, the 2004 coupe also represents the Sebring line well.
Under the Hood
The entry-level LX coupe model
is equipped with a 2.4-liter, 4-cylinder engine that combines
147 horsepower at 5500 rpm with 158 lb-ft of torque at 4000
rpm. Both 4-speed automatic transmission and 5-speed manual
are available. With automatics, the coupe has a fuel rating
of 21/28 mpg (city/highway), while manuals get 22/29 mpg (city/highway).
Top-line LXi models can let
it out with a 3.0-liter V6 engine that pumps out 200 horsepower
at 5500 rpm and 205 lb-ft of torque at 4500 rpm. LXi automatics
get 20/28 mpg (city/highway) and manuals get 20/29 mpg (city/highway).
Like always, the 2004 Sebring coupe continues to handle with
precision.
Standard Features, Options
Packages and Style
The majority of the styling
changes on the Sebring coupe occurred in 2003. For 2004, the
cool look is essentially a replication of last year’s model,
but since nobody’s really complained there wasn’t much reason
to change. Inside the 2004 coupe air conditioning, cruise
control, a height-adjustable driver seat, a remote entry system
and an AM/FM radio with in-dash 4-disc CD changer are standard
across the board.
LX coupe owners can add a
special Touring Group, which contains a universal-garage door
opener, a 6-way power driver seat, an automatic day/night
rearview mirror, an outside-temperature indicator and a compass.
LXi models provide an optional Leather Interior Group, which
adds the obvious comfort of lush leather.
