Used 2004 Chrysler Sebring

Buying Guide for the Chrysler Sebring:

The mid-size sedan market is not an easy place to ply your trade. Models in this segment are really at the heart of the entire automotive landscape. They must offer style, comfort, power, safety and, if possible, do it all at a reasonable price. While the 2004 Chrysler Sebring sedan may not be the flashist mid-size model out there, it will certainly hold its own with any car in terms of the qualifications listed above.

The Sebring sedan body features lines that are long, smooth and punctuated by bold, round wheel arches and large, wraparound lights. Beneath that skin lies a rigid, roomy structure that rates five stars in government collision and rollover tests. The Sebring's stiffness also provides an ideal platform for its supple, all-independent suspension.

Under the Hood

Two engines are spread across the front-wheel drive Sebring sedan’s two-model lineup. With the entry-level LX model, the motor responsible for the driving is a 2.4-liter, four-cylinder model that offers 150 horsepower at 5200 rpm and 167 lb-ft of torque at 4000 rpm. Top-line LXi models get up to speed quicker with a 2.7-liter V6 with 200 horsepower at 5800 rpm and 190 lb-ft of torque at 4850 rpm.

4-speed automatic is the transmission mated to both of these capable engines. LXi models also feature fog lights for those dreary evenings. Chrysler offers a special Enthusiast Group with LXi models. Aptly named, it adds manual shift capability, firm-feel power steering, sport suspension and an electroluminescent instrument cluster.

Standard Features, Options Packages and Style

The 2004 Sebring sedan has four-doors and seats fives. Its wheelbase of 108 inches is the longest of the three-model Sebring family (convertible and coupe covered in separate reviews). With over 38 inches of minimum rear leg room, the sedan can back up its claim of spaciousness with real figures.

Standard equipment on both 2004 Sebring sedans includes wheel covers, air conditioning, power steering, cloth upholstery, front bucket seats with driver-seat lumbar adjustment, center console, split folding rear seat and power mirrors, windows and door locks.

A tantalizing option for top-line LXi models is a Luxury Group, which adds leather upholstery, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with radio controls and a premium sound system. It makes a nice package that much more appealing.
