Used 2004 Dodge Durango

Buying Guide for the Dodge Durango:

Even though the Durango is a relatively new model, the makers at Dodge apparently weren't satisfied with the way things were going. They felt they could push the design further, making the 2004 Dodge Durango even more capable than it already was.

For 2004, that's exactly what they've done. The new Dodge Durango is redesigned from the ground up, making it bigger, heavier, stronger and more rugged than ever. There isn't much the manufacturer left standing pat, save for a few of the basic standard appointments.

Other than that, this is a brand new vehicle that really pushes the limits of the midsize segment. With best-in-class power, the ability to tow 8,950 lbs. and seating for seven passengers, the broad-shouldered Durango will almost certainly make Dodge proud.

Under the Hood

Two new engines are available for 2004. The standard engine with two-wheel drive Dodge Durangos is a 3.7-liter V6. Even though it has the least amount of strength of the lot, it will still produce 210 horsepower at 5200 rpm and 235 lb-ft of torque at 4000 rpm. 4-speed automatic transmission comes mated to this engine.

Not only do all-wheel drive models have the stability of a continuously sensing road system, they also come fitted with a tough 4.7-liter V8 engine. It uses a 5-speed automatic transaxle, and will get you up to 230 horsepower at 4600 rpm and 290 lb-ft of torque at 3600 rpm.

But for real power, you need only step up to the optional engine offered for 2004. It brings legendary HEMI power to the mix, giving the Durango a true beast of a heart under its hood. The specs: 5.7-liter HEMI V8 with 330 horsepower at 5400 rpm and 370 lb-ft of torque at 4200 rpm.

Standard Features, Options Packages and Style

The 2004 Durango is almost a full-size, but not quite. It is 3 inches longer in wheelbase, 7 inches longer overall, close to 5 inches wider and almost 400 lbs heavier than its predecessor.

There are three trims available: ST, SLT and Limited. The latter is a true example of engineering precision and extreme interior comfort. It boasts such standard features as dual-zone automatic climate control, leather upholstery, a memory system (driver seat, mirrors, pedals), a leather-wrapped steering wheel with radio controls and an AM/FM radio with in-dash 6-disc CD/MP3 changer.
