Dodge Stratus Coupe
2004 Dodge Stratus Review:
The word diversity is bandied
about by many manufacturers when it comes to describing their
models, but with the Stratus line, it is certainly justified.
In addition to the coupe (covered in a separate review), there
is the sedan, bigger and with a more modest design than its
smaller sibling. And with the 2004 Stratus sedan alone there
is a total of four trim levels: SE, SXT, ES and R/T. Now that’s
diversity.
One thing the Stratus sedan
takes seriously is occupant safety. To that end, it offers
an available security alarm and keyless entry. In addition,
a three-point shoulder/lap belt at all seating positions,
the child seat anchor system (LATCH) and side supplemental
air bags are available on all models.
Under the Hood
The front-wheel drive Stratus
sedan provides varying levels of power and performance across
its lineup. At the entry level, the SE model has a 2.7-liter
V6 engine with 200 horsepower at 5900 rpm and 192 lb-ft of
torque at 4300. This engine is actually a mandatory option,
and it propels the SE ahead of the SXT in terms of power,
which is fitted with a 2.4-liter, 4-cylinder model with 150
horsepower at 5200 rpm and 167 lb-ft of torque at 4000 rpm.
Upper level trims ES and R/T
simply build on the established powertrain of the SE model.
The ES model has a special sport suspension system and 4-wheel
disc brakes, while the R/T steps it up a notch with 4-wheel
antilock brakes and performance suspension.
Standard Features, Options
Packages and Style
The 2004 Dodge Stratus sedan
is designed to focus on the important aspects of car driving
rather than the superfluous ones. Along with its safety and
performance, Stratus sedan provides more interior space (94
cubic feet of interior volume), more cargo room (16.0 cubic
feet of cargo space) and more storage space (full length console
with cupholders).
Leather upholstery is available
on ES and R/T models. Also offered with these top-line trims
is an AM/FM radio with cassette player, CD changer controls,
a 6-disc in-dash CD player and six Premium Gold-speakers and
120-watt amplifier.
With its 2004 Stratus sedan,
Dodge shows that it knows what customers want, and how best
to give it to them. In the end, diversity is key.
