2004 Ford Crown Victoria Review:
The Crown Victoria is like a large, majestic eagle—big, sleek,
graceful and powerful at once. It is a traditional car that
offers a wealth of roominess and dependable V8 power. For
2004, size, safety and dependability remain hallmarks amid
a simpler array of models and equipment.
The Crown Victoria’s design is calm and reassuring. It puts
one at ease, while at the same time offering a definite functionality.
In six-passenger Standard and LX trims, the 2004 Crown Victoria
offers 111.2 cubic feet of passenger volume. The trunk is
the largest in its class, with 20.6 cubic feet of space. In
addition, Crown Victoria’s low liftover height makes loading
and unloading easy.
Under the Hood
The 2004 Ford Crown Victoria’s power doesn’t look readily
apparent from its modest appearance, but to know there lurks
a V8 beast under the hood is very satisfying to its owners.
Standard and LX models have a 4.6-liter V8 with 224 horsepower
and 239 lb-ft of torque. The top-line LX Sport offers more
strength with a 4.6-liter V8 that increases the horsepower
to 239 and the lb-ft of torque to 287. Crown Victoria uses
an electronically controlled four-speed automatic overdrive
transmission. A revised torque converter improves off-the-line
acceleration this year.
A Handling and Performance Package is an option on LX models,
and it comes standard with the LX Sport. It includes revised
springs and monotube shocks, rear heavy-duty stabilizer bar,
rear load-leveling air suspension, dual exhaust, performance
torque convertor and a 3.27:1 axle ratio.
Standard Features, Options Packages and Style
The style of the Crown Vic has always been subtle but undeniable.
The roomy cabin space is filled with standard features to
make the ride as smooth as the full-size sedan looks. For
2004, two new exterior colors are available: Midnight Gray
and Dark Toreador Red. Also new is an improved overhead console
design and optional laminated side glass for added security
against break-ins.
Plenty of options are available with the 2004 Ford Crown
Victoria. Side airbags in the front seats, all-speed traction
control with electronic brake force distribution, a six-disc
CD changer, heated rearview mirrors, electronic instrumentation,
power adjustable pedals and a trunk organizer can all be purchased
for an extra fee.
