2004 Ford Excursion Eddie Bauer and Limited Review:
Some people are never satisfied with what they have. No matter
what, they’re always wanting more. The Eddie Bauer and Limited
trims of the 2004 Ford Excursion are offered for precisely
these types of individuals. They combine premium luxury appointments
with the biggest SUV in the solar system.
If you’re having trouble picturing just how big the Ford
Excursion is, it might help to first take a look at the Chevrolet
Suburban. The latter is certainly no slouch as a full-size
sport utility. However, when compared to the Suburban, the
Excursion is 7.4 inches longer, 6 inches taller and 2000 lbs
heavier.
Those aren’t typos. That’s the sort of thing you can expect
with Ford’s biggest vehicle. Not surprisingly, roominess and
power are included in the deal as well.
Under the Hood
The standard engine with both the Eddie Bauer and the Limited
is a 5.3-liter V8 model. It churns out 255 horsepower at 4500
rpm and 350 lb-ft of torque at 2500 rpm. 4-speed automatic
is the transmission of choice for this rugged V8 beast.
The first of two optional engines is a 6.8-liter V10 engine
with 310 horsepower at 4250 rpm and 425 lb-ft of torque at
3250 rpm. The second is a 6.0-liter turbodiesel V8 engine.
It uses 5-speed automatic transmission and produces 325 horsepower
at 3300 rpm and 550 lb-ft of torque at 2000 rpm.
All of this translates into a maximum towing capacity of
11,000 pounds. With the diesel engine, there’s a Tow-Haul
Mode feature that, once activated, can help increase a driver’s
feeling of control when towing large loads up and down steep
grades. It also automatically minimizes shifts and maximizes
available torque.
Standard Features, Options Packages and Style
The four-door Excursion can seat nine adults with ease. It
offers 146.4 cubic feet of cargo volume as well.
The Eddie Bauer trim comes with such standard features as
Arizona Beige front and rear bumpers, grille and body cladding
with wheel lips, illuminated running boards, a trip computer
and power-adjustable pedals. Also included is a Reverse Sensing
System and captain’s chairs in two-tone leather seating surfaces.
To this, the Limited adds heated front seats, driver-seat
and pedal memory and an AM/FM radio with in-dash 6-disc CD
changer.
