Used 2004 GMC Savana 2500

Buying Guide for the GMC Savana 2500:

When you get into the full-size van category, you really dispense with all the superfluous gimmicks. The Savana exemplifies this business-like attitude: it is offered for people who need a lot of size, power and space to move whatever needs to be moved.

That is not to say that you can’t doll up the Savana—there are plenty of available packages and stand-alone options to bathe the van in extreme comfort. However, as a model that also performs for commercial ventures, it’s safe to say where the Savana’s talents lie.

All Savana models have two swing-open rear cargo doors and, on the passenger side, either 60/40 doors or a sliding door. Newly optional, from last year, are 60/40 doors on the driver side.

Under the Hood

The 2500 is in the middle of the Savana family. It is a ¾-ton beast joined by a ½-ton 1500 model and a 1-ton 3500 model (covered separately). Right at the heart of things, the Savana 2500 has an impressive powertrain featuring a 4.8-liter V8 with 275 horsepower at 5200 rpm and 290 lb-ft of torque at 4000 rpm. It is mated to a 4-speed electronic automatic transmission with overdrive and torque converter.

The rear-wheel drive 2500 model also gives customers the option of a bigger, meaner engine. This available engine is a 6.0-liter V8. It can generate 300 horsepower at 4400 rpm and 360 lb-ft of torque at 4000 rpm.

The Savana is big and thick, able to withstand collisions with its reinforced construction. Four-wheel antilock disc brakes are standard on all vans.

Standard Features, Options Packages and Style

The 2500 is offered in a regular length body and an extended length body. Regular lengths can seat up to twelve and have 267.3 cubic feet of cargo volume. Extended length models add on twenty inches to the wheelbase and an extra row of seating that holds three more people. These massive models have a total cargo volume of 316.8 cubic feet.

There are a number of equipment packages that can be added to the standard base model. One among these is an SLE group, which includes such things as rear air conditioning, a rear heater, cruise control, heated power mirrors, power windows and door locks and remote keyless entry.

Other options include the OnStar system, an AM/FM/CD/cassette player and a rear defogger.
