2004 GMC Yukon Denali Review:
Take a regular length Yukon
and generously heap on the appointments, both in terms of
performance and luxury, and the result is the Yukon Denali.
Quite simply a premium full-size sport utility vehicle, it
is an extreme type of vehicle.
Extreme in a good way, that
is. Combining extreme power, extremely sharp handling, extreme
safety features and an extremely comfortable interior, the
2004 Yukon Denali is right up there with the finest full-size
SUVs on the planet.
2004 Yukon Denalis are even
safer than before. All models come with a new tire-pressure
monitoring system. It constantly monitors tire pressure and
alerts the driver via a chime and a telltale light in the
instrument panel if the air pressure drops below a specified
level.
Under the Hood
Excellent performance was
the goal of GMC engineers, and they’ve done quite well with
it. The Denali is smooth, strong and responsive. It is fitted
with 6.0-liter Vortec V8 with 325 horsepower at 5200 rpm and
365 lb-ft of torque at 4000 rpm. 4-speed automatic transmission
with a tow/haul mode is standard.
The Denali uses all-wheel
drive for maximum responsiveness. It employs a one-speed full-time,
open differential all-wheel-drive transfer case, which permits
flexible torque transfer. Its 40-percent front/60-percent
rear bias ratio also provides the necessary amount of front
torque for excellent yaw stability.
Keeping the 2004 Yukon Denali
stable is a standard Autoride suspension system. It automatically
adjusts the shock dampening and includes a rear, air-assisted
load-leveling system, designed to keep the truck level when
filled up with goods.
Standard Features, Options
Packages and Style
The Yukon Denali is filled
with standard features, so much so that only a few options
are available. The interior design is all about cleanliness.
Denali’s tone-on-tone leather seats have a clean European-style
appearance. The refined interior also includes a handsome
instrument panel and cluster with LCD displays.
XM Satellite Radio and the
OnStar system are also part of the standard package. So are
tri-zone automatic climate controls, a leather-wrapped steering
wheel with radio controls, power adjustable pedals and a Bose
AM/FM/cassette player with in-dash 6-disc CD changer.
There is room for only four
options. They are a power glass sunroof, a rear seat DVD entertainment
system, middle-row bucket seats and Integrated Navigation
Radio.
