Used 2004 GMC Yukon XL

Buying Guide for the GMC Yukon XL:

It isn’t hard to figure out what the ‘XL’ stands for with the 2004 GMC Yukon XL. What may be a little more difficult is determining why people need to increase the size of the nine-passenger regular length Yukon.

But people have their reasons, and the numbers back it up. The Yukon XL is practically as popular as its smaller sibling. Offered in ½-ton 1500 models and ¾-ton 2500s, the Yukon XL doesn’t up the passenger capacity, but it does create an exceptionally roomy interior cabin.

Fourteen inches are added to the regular length Yukon’s wheelbase with XL models. This creates an arena-like atmosphere inside the full-size SUV. Needless to say, there is plenty of cargo-carrying ability with GMC’s mainstay. You just have to find a way to use it all.

Under the Hood

Yukon XLs in the 1500 segment are fitted with a 5.3-liter Vortec V8 engine. It produces 295 horsepower at 5200 rpm and 330 lb-ft of torque at 4000 rpm. Optional with 1500s and standard with larger 2500s is a 6.0-liter Vortec V8 with 325 horsepower at 5200 rpm and 365 lb-ft of torque at 4000 rpm.

If you are interested in the 2500, but somehow feel as though a 325-horsepower engine isn’t strong enough for your tastes, there’s always the optional 8.1-liter Vortec V8 with 320 horsepower at 4200 rpm and 440 lb-ft of torque at 3200 rpm.

The StabiliTrak stability enhancement system is an option with Yukon XL 1500 models. Quadrasteer 4-wheel steering is reserved for 2500s. Both systems increase the handling precision and safety of their vehicles.

2004 Yukons are offered with rear-wheel drive with standard traction control and limited-slip differential, or General Motors' Autotrac 4WD that can be left engaged on dry pavement and includes low-range gearing.

Standard Features, Options Packages and Style

New for 2004 are 17-inch, six-spoke premium aluminum wheels, available on Yukon XL SLT models. These stylish new wheels can be shod with either all-season blackwalls or whitewalls, or on/off-road blackwalls.

The optional SLT package adds much more than just new wheels.
