2004 GMC Yukon Review:
Able to seat nine passengers
in its smallest configuration, the GMC Yukon is aptly placed
in the full-size sport utility vehicle category. The other
features that warrant this title are power, four-wheel drive
ruggedness and premium interior appointments.
For 2004, GMC Yukon has a
number of new standard safety features. Hydroboost brakes,
a driver and right-front passenger safety belt reminder and
a tire-pressure monitoring system are all found on each and
every Yukon model.
In addition, 2004 GMC Yukon
models also offer GM’s StabiliTrak system. If the StabiliTrak
system senses that the vehicle is losing control, it precisely
reduces engine torque and applies precise amounts of pressure
to the individual brakes to slow the vehicle and help bring
it back to its intended path.
Under the Hood
Leading the way for the 2004
GMC Yukon is a 4.8-liter Vortec V8 engine. This big machine
pumps out 285 horsepower at 5600 rpm and 295 lb-ft of torque
at 4000 rpm. It is mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission
with GM’s Tow/Haul mode.
2004 Yukons are offered with
rear-wheel drive with standard traction control and limited-slip
differential, or General Motors' Autotrac 4WD that can be
left engaged on dry pavement and includes low-range gearing.
If you’re not satisfied with
the Yukon’s standard equipment package, you can opt for a
more powerful 5.3-liter Vortec V8 engine. It produces 295
horsepower at 5200 rpm and 330 lb-ft of torque at 4000 rpm.
Front side airbags are also optional.
Standard Features, Options
Packages and Style
Audio pleasure is also covered
by the new Yukon. A nine-speaker Bose system is included on
all models with front bucket seats. It uses a ported bass-reflex
subwoofer, located in the center console, and a new dual-voice
coil driver to enhance audio performance. A high-powered,
linear six-channel amplifier in the center console further
enhances sound levels.
Just like customers have they
ability to change engines, they can also upgrade from the
standard base trim. An SLT package comes with an added fee,
and includes 17-inch, 6-spoke aluminum wheels, leather upholstery,
front bucket seats, a center console, tri-zone automatic climate
control, rear radio controls and running boards.
As if that’s not enough, there’s
also a DVD rear entertainment system available for 2004. Particularly
useful during long road trips, it plays digital quality videos
for all rear passengers.
