Buying Guide for the Infiniti G35 Coupe:
If you’re a family man, and have had an eye on the Infiniti
G35 for its blend of power, grace, style and safety, you’re
best bet might be the four-door sedan version. However, if
you’re single and you want a two-door near-luxury car with
plenty of zip, the G35 coupe is as good a choice as any.
The G35 gets quite a few upgrades this model year. The biggest
of them all is the introduction of a new all-wheel drive sedan
(covered separately), though Infiniti doesn’t neglect the
rest of the family by any means.
For 2004, Infiniti G35 coupes with manual-transmission have
upgraded brakes and 18-inch wheels vs. 17-inch wheels—the
18s are optional on automatic coupes. Also for the new year,
all G35s get a standard tire-pressure monitor.
Under the Hood
The 2004 Infiniti G35 coupe uses the same efficient engine
as the sedan. Under its stylish hood is a 3.5-liter V6. The
aluminum engine boasts a number of advanced features such
as variable valve timing, a high airflow intake and low-friction
pistons, cams and crankshaft.
Compared to the sedan, the coupe has more power: 280 horsepower
at 6200 rpm and 270 lb-ft of torque at 4800 rpm. However,
it too can be had with a 5-speed automatic transmission with
manual-shift capability and a 6-speed manual setup with a
short throw shifter.
The Infiniti Vehicle Dynamic Control is a system that uses
sensors to detect loss of function, and then respond accordingly.
In addition, the G35's Front Midship platform is weighted
53/47 to help front tires grip the pavement under braking
and turns.
Standard Features, Options Packages and Style
Being a sport coupe, the G35 is designed to keep the driver
attuned to the road at all times. With this in mind, Infiniti
gave the coupe a multi-information display and positioned
it at eye level. It keeps the driver abreast of the outside
temperature, compass heading and climate-control settings
of the vehicle with just a glance.
For 2004, all G35 coupes receive such safety features as
front side airbags, head-protecting curtain side airbags and
antilock 4-wheel disc brakes.
Leather models are available with a navigation system and
satellite radio. The navigation system uses a 6.5-inch monitor
to provide you with maintenance reminders, an advanced trip
computer and a fuel economy calculator.
