2004 Infiniti I35 Review:
Infiniti offers two near-luxury cars, the G35 and the I35.
Of the two, the I35 is probably the more conservative. It
isn’t as aggressively styled as the G35, and it only comes
in a sober four-door sedan. The one thing that will get the
blood pumping, however, is the V6 engine under the I35’s hood.
One thing that will catch the eye this year is the 2004 I35’s
design. In what amounts to a practical redesign, the I35 rolls
off the line with a new appearance that includes a standard
sunroof, a power rear sunshade and body side sills on all
models.
Whether conservative or not, Infiniti equips all its models
with both passive and active safety features. On the active
side of things, the 2004 I35 is given Infiniti’s Traction
Control System to help enhance front-wheel grip when accelerating.
It senses wheelspin and automatically reduces engine output
to help give the sedan a better foothold.
Under the Hood
Infiniti also likes to make good use of its a 3.5-liter V6
engine. The aluminum model, which has such features as variable
valve timing, a high airflow intake and low-friction pistons,
cams and crankshaft, is also offered with the 2004 G35.
With the I35, the results are as follows: 255 horsepower
at 6000 rpm and 246 lb-ft of torque at 3600 rpm. 4-speed electronically
controlled automatic transmission is standard with the 2004
I35.
Speed-sensitive rack-and-pinion steering gives the driver
of the I35 a responsiveness that maximizes driving comfort.
At lower velocity, the steering adjusts, requiring less effort.
At higher engine speeds, the amount of assist is reduced to
give a more precise steering input.
Standard Features, Options Packages and Style
Infiniti gave the I35’s seating arrangement quite a bit of
time when they were designing the sedan. Each of the driver
seat's 8-way power adjustments has a memory setting. If the
seat has been moved, just press a button and it motors back
into place.
There are plenty of additional standard features offered
for 2004. Air conditioning with automatic climate control,
a tilt woodgrain/leather-wrapped steering wheel with radio
controls, leather upholstery, power mirrors, windows and door
locks, remote keyless entry and a Bose AM/FM/cassette player
with in-dash 6-disc CD changer are just a few of the names
from the list.
