Used 2004 Jaguar XJ Series

Buying Guide for the Jaguar XJ Series:

For more than three decades, the XJ Series has been the definitive Jaguar sedan. Not to disrespect other car models or other manufacturers, but to lay claim to this title is something to truly be proud of. The 2004 Jaguar XJ Series is the seventh generation incarnation of a vehicle that instantly reflects its prestigious manufacturer’s name.

If you had any thoughts that Jaguars were perhaps an icon of the past, think again. Working with the most advanced technologies ever

Buying Guide for the by Jaguar, the XJ program team has crafted a car that blends the ultra-modern with traditional Jaguar values. Made of lightweight aluminum construction, the 2004 XJ Series offers new levels of strength and ability, as well as all the luxury one comes to expect from a Jaguar.

Under the Hood

Performance anxiety has never, nor will it ever be, a problem for Jaguars. Entry-level XJ8 and mid-level Vanden Plas models feature a 4.2-liter V8 engine with 294 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 303 lb-ft of torque at 4100 rpm. At the top is the remarkable XJR, which offers a supercharged V8 of the same dimensions. This beast is able to crank out 390 horsepower at 6100 rpm and 399 lb-ft of torque at 3500 rpm.

Of course, the ride is going to be smooth and responsive. A computer-controlled self-leveling suspension can claim partial responsibility for this. Safety will never be problem with the new XJ Series either, as all models have dual front airbags, front side airbags, curtain side airbags, antilock 4-wheel disc brakes with brake assist, an antiskid system and a rear-obstacle-detection system.

Standard Features, Options Packages and Style

Under all the glory and all the splendid refinement, the 2004 Jaguar XJ Series remains a meticulously crafted vehicle. In addition to its new, lightweight frame, XJ models are also sturdier and tougher than ever before. A magnesium cross-car beam—as strong as aluminum but 30 per cent lighter again—supports the fascia, instrument panel and is combined with aluminum to produce a lightweight steering column.

There are standard features and gadgets galore, as one would expect. Leather upholstery, wood interior trim, air conditioning with dual-zone automatic climate controls, a memory system (driver seat, mirrors, steering wheel, pedals), power windows, door locks and sunroof and a AM/FM/CD player are just a fraction of what comes with the base XJ8. The Vanden Plas adds heated front and rear seats, an Alpine sound system, a 6-disc CD changer, a power rear sunshade and lamb's-wool floormats. As if that’s not enough, the top-line XJR even has a heated steering wheel. Remarkably, there is room for options like a navigation system and a front-obstacle detection system.
