2004 Lexus RX 330 Review:
The makers at Lexus apparently weren’t too satisfied with
the old RX 300. So, instead of discarding it, they simply
renamed it and revamped it with more power, size and standard
features. The result: the new 2004 Lexus RX 330.
A combination of performance and style mark the new version
of Lexus’ five-passenger sport utility vehicle. Of course,
the term luxury also provides you with an indication of what
this crossover model offers. Comfort is a given for 2004,
just as it was with the RX 300—that is one feature Lexus surely
wouldn’t want to discontinue.
Under the Hood
The engine chosen to represent the new RX 330 is a 3.3-liter
V6 with 230 horsepower at 5600 rpm and 242 lb-ft of torque
at 3600 rpm. It is mated an advanced 5-speed automatic transmission.
The engine uses variable valve timing, a system that continuously
monitors the engine's speed and load and responds by delivering
optimum power in each situation. It increases torque at lower
speeds for better pulling power and boosts overall power at
higher speeds for better acceleration
The 2004 RX 330 comes with either all-wheel drive or front-wheel
drive. Its bulging safety package includes dual front airbags,
front side airbags, curtain side airbags, driver-side knee
airbags, antilock 4-wheel disc brakes with brake assist, traction
control, an antiskid system and a tire-pressure monitor. In
other words, it is one safe SUV.
Standard Features, Options Packages and Style
When compared to the RX 300, the 2004 RX 330 is 4 inches
longer in wheelbase and 5.9 inches overall. It is also a little
wider and taller, and about 140 lbs heavier. The result is
more room on the interior for each of the five passengers.
To this roomy interior the RX 330 adds a host of standard
luxury appointments. Some of the ones that jump out from the
list are a rear spoiler, rear privacy glass, air conditioning
with dual-zone automatic climate controls, a tilt leather-wrapped
steering wheel with radio controls, a wood interior trim,
heated power mirrors with automatic day/night, an AM/FM/cassette/CD
player and a universal garage-door opener.
On top of this, customers can also opt for a Premium Package.
It completes things with leather upholstery, a memory system
(driver’s seat, mirrors, steering wheel), a power sunroof,
a compass and a roof rack. Additional options are also available.
