2004 Lincoln Town Car Review:
The model most associated with Lincoln (though the Navigator
is making quite a challenge in this regard), the Town Car
has always conjured up the type of adjectives Lincoln wants
associated with its name. Terms like refinement, class and
grace all aptly describe the Town Car.
The tradition of the Town Car is set to expand with the 2004
model. Though there are only minor refinements to this year’s
version, they still combine to produce a vehicle that is unlike
any other. Of note is a new model rearrangement: last year’s
Cartier model has been replaced by the Ultimate, while the
Executive is now fleet only.
Under the Hood
The power of the rear-wheel drive Town Car has also been
something that tends to get overshadowed by the vehicle’s
style and comfort. However, it is certainly there. This is
evidenced by the engine under the 2004 Town Car’s hood. A
4.6-liter V8, it can pump out up to 239 horsepower and 287
lb-ft of torque. This strong engine is mated to a 4-speed
automatic transmission.
Another thing that perhaps goes unnoticed is the comprehensive
safety package that has always defined the Town Car. For 2004,
the features responsible for ensuring driver and occupant
safety include all-speed traction control, dual front airbags,
side airbags, antilock 4-wheel disc brakes, extended rear
park assist and an automatic parking brake release.
Standard Features, Options Packages and Style
Two extended-wheelbase models continue for 2004, the Executive
L (fleet only) and Ultimate L. In addition to the extra 6
inches in their wheelbase, L models also offer rear-seat amenities
including a folding armrest with tissue and storage bins as
well as dual power points and redundant audio, climate and
right front passenger seat controls. The Ultimate L model
includes heated rear seats. All models seat six passengers.
Luxury means supreme comfort, and this is made possible by
such standard features as power-adjustable pedals, an auto-dimming
rearview mirror, a dual-media sound system, premium leather
seating surfaces and dual-zone electronic automatic temperature
control. Signature models add on such amenities as a leather-wrapped
steering wheel with wood inserts, a memory system (driver’s
seat, pedals, mirrors) and heated front seats.
For options, there is Sirius satellite radio, Lincolns’ DVD/Touch
Screen Navigation System, a moonroof and more.
