2004 Mercedes-Benz C-Class (300 Models) Review:
At the head of the C-Class are C-300 models, known for their
sporty rides, outstanding safety equipment and reasonable
prices (for the segment). They have all the class and refinement
in the world, plus numerous advanced features that are more
than just cute little gadgets.
For example, standard with the top-line C32 AMG model is
Mercedes’ TeleAid telematics system. It uses cellular and
GPS technology to provide a 24-hour connection to a Mercedes-Benz
customer representative. With a simple touch of a button,
you can speak with a representative at all hours of the day.
This is essential in emergency situations; highly useful in
all others.
Comprehensive safety coverage doesn’t end there. All C-Class
vehicles come with antilock 4-wheel disc brakes with brake
assist, antiskid/traction control, front/rear side airbags,
head-protecting curtain side airbags and Mercedes' BabySmart
child-seat recognition system.
Under the Hood
Easily the fastest model in the C-Class family is the high-performance
C32 AMG sedan. It has a supercharged V6 engine, sport suspension
and a 5-speed automatic transmission with manual-shift capability.
It also has upgraded brakes, which feature enlarged perforated
front discs with 4-piston calipers.
The supercharged V6 under the hood of the C32 should get
your blood moving quickly. Able to produce a massive 349 horsepower
at 6100 rpm and up to 332 lb-ft of torque at 3000 rpm, there’s
no questioning its ability.
The rest of the C-300 class of wagons, sedans and coupes
uses a 3.2-liter V6 engine. Quite impressive in its own right,
this V6 can generate 215 horsepower at 5700 rpm and 221 lb-ft
of torque at 3000 rpm.
Mercedes' 4Matic all-wheel drive system is available for
any automatic-transmission C-class sedan or wagon for 2004.
The C32 only comes with rear-wheel drive, however.
Standard Features, Options Packages and Style
2004 C-Class coupes are available with Mercedes' large Panorama
sunroof. It teams with a fixed-glass panel over the rear seat;
each has a power sunshade. This year, Mercedes offers its
4Matic system and heated seats with a discount that adds up
to over one thousand dollars, versus 2003.
With C320 models, the standard features list includes air
conditioning with dual-zone automatic climate controls, steering-wheel
radio controls and a memory system (driver seat, mirrors,
steering wheel).
