2004 Mercedes-Benz M-Class Review:
The M-Class is a sport utility vehicle that easily fits into
the luxury category. Originally launched in 1998, the M-Class
marked a brand-new type of Mercedes model. Since that time,
the manufacturer has continually upgraded the vehicle, keeping
it right on the cusp of the cutting edge.
High quality materials are used inside and out—nothing less
would be expected from a model with the price and reputation
of the M-Class. Clear-lens halogen headlamps with projector
beams and fog lights that are integrated into the front bumper
keep the path well lit before you.
On the inside, it’s all about comfort. The center console
has been upgraded for 2004, making the controls more intuitive
and user-friendly. A burl walnut trim is another interior
design highlight—it has refinement written all over it, and
consequently, all over the M-Class.
Under the Hood
Fans of high-octane SUVs will be saddened to hear that the
M-Class loses its high-powered M55 AMG model for 2004. A moment
of silence please…
The rest of the family endures as the M350 and M500. The
M350 is equipped with a 3.7-liter V6 engine that produces
232 horsepower at 5750 rpm and 254 lb-ft of torque at 3000
rpm.
The new top-line model, the M500 uses a 5.0-liter V8 engine.
Not a weakling by any means, it will give you 288 horsepower
at 5600 rpm and 325 lb-ft of torque at 2700 rpm.
Both M-Class models come with all-wheel drive with low-range
gearing and a 5-speed automatic transmission with a manual
shift gate. They provide drivers with the peace of mind of
an AWD system, and the fun of gear-shifting.
Standard Features, Options Packages and Style
Luxury models generally have exceptional safety features.
With the M-Class, the standard package includes dual front
airbags with an automatic child seat recognition system, front
and rear side airbags, curtain side airbags, antilock 4-wheel
disc brakes with brake assist and an antiskid system.
Mercedes' TeleAid assistance system and a dashboard screen
for controlling audio and navigation systems are also included.
TeleAid keeps you and your family constantly in-tune with
customer representatives, 24-hours a day. The system automatically
notifies an office when an airbag is deployed. Or, you can
call them yourself at any time.
For options, the 2004 Mercedes-Benz M-Class offers a Bose
sound system with an in-dash 6-disc CD changer, a rear obstacle
detection system, a power sunroof and more.
