2004 Mitsubishi Endeavor Review:
The Endeavor is Mitsubishi’s answer to the Honda Pilot. A
new model, the Endeavor hopes to slide into the hotly contested
mid-size sport utility segment and steal away a bit of the
glory from other SUVs. Doing this, however, will be harder
than saying it, and only time will tell whether the Endeavor
has the stuff to do the trick.
The all-new Mitsubishi Endeavor is a five-passenger V6 wagon
based on the company's forthcoming 2004 Galant sedan platform.
Endeavor is similar in length to its primary foe, the Honda
Pilot, but it is 4 inches narrower and some 400 lbs lighter.
The first Mitsubishi model to use the Project America platform,
the US-built Endeavor is designed to appeal to American tastes
and habits.
Under the Hood
The new Endeavor is powered by a 3.8-liter V6 engine that
has the ability to pump out 215 horsepower at 5000 rpm and
250 lb-ft of torque at 3750 rpm. It is mated to a 4-speed
automatic transmission with manual-shift capability.
The Endeavor is offered with front-wheel drive or all-wheel
drive. For 2004, the new Endeavor has a fuel rating of 19/27
mpg (city/highway) on all-wheel drive models, 19/29 mpg (city/highway)
with two-wheel drive versions.
Though the Endeavor has available all-wheel drive, its car-based
design means it is not intended for heavy off-road use. It
is sturdy and tough, but not equipped to handle knee-deep
mud and severe terrain.
Standard Features, Options Packages and Style
The 2004 Endeavor has a wheelbase of 108.7 inches and an
overall length of 190.2 inches. It has four doors, seats five
and offers a total cargo volume of 76.4 cubic feet. That means
there’s plenty of room to lug around whatever needs to be
lugged around.
There are three trim levels with the new Endeavor: base LS,
XLS and top-line Limited. Standard features across the board
include air conditioning, cruise control, power windows, mirrors
and door locks and a split folding rear seat. Limited models
have leather upholstery, a leather-wrapped steering wheel,
automatic climate control, heated front seats and a power
sunroof.
Limited models also offer a few enticing options that really
move the ride into ridiculous comfort regions. A rear-seat
entertainment system will keep kids occupied for hours, while
an available antiskid system will give parents the peace of
mind they need when driving them around.
