2004 Nissan Pathfinder Armada Review:
The all-new 2004 Nissan Pathfinder Armada is the first full-size
sport utility vehicle from the Japanese manufacturer. It dwarfs
the smaller Pathfinder in size, just as it does to most of
its competitors.
When Nissan decided to make the new Pathfinder Armada, they
certainly had the goal of spaciousness in mind. With three
rows of seating for up to eight people and more second-row
leg room than any other SUV, they easily achieved that goal.
It is also longer than the Chevy Tahoe and Ford Expedition.
In terms of comfort, the Pathfinder Armada is clearly on
the upscale side of the ledger. In addition to the standard
room each and every model receives, there are countless options
that can be had as well.
Under the Hood
There is enough power under the hood of the new Pathfinder
Armada to handle most any load. The standard powertrain consists
of a 5.6-liter V8 engine mated to a 5-speed automatic transmission.
The engine can produce up to 305 horsepower at 4900 rpm and
385 lb-ft of torque at 3600 rpm and the transmission is floor-mounted.
Two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations are offered.
The Pathfinder Armada uses a Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC)
system that enhances performance by helping to manage engine
power and modifying brake pressure for each individual wheel
on slippery surfaces.
If you need to tow something, the Pathfinder Armada can probably
do it for you. An available package gives it a 9100-lb. maximum
towing capacity. The automatic transmission also has a Tow/Haul
Mode that holds lower gears longer for improved engine braking
on steep inclines.
Standard Features, Options Packages and Style
As a big-time SUV with plenty of seating, the Pathfinder
Armada can move large families all over the place. Nissan
also equipped the new model with numerous features so that
everyone gets along. For example, Dual Media Playback lets
front and rear passengers listen to separate audio sources
at the same time.
In addition, a rear air conditioning system allows the passengers
in the back to stay just as cool as those in front. If the
kids are bothering you, an available rear-seat DVD entertainment
system should keep them quiet for hours.
Of course, there are many more options offered for the Pathfinder
Armada’s debut year. A navigation system, satellite radio,
an interior air filter and more are all available.
