Used 2004 Nissan Xterra
Buying Guide for the Nissan Xterra:
Someday, people looking up the word Xterra in the dictionary
will come to the following definition: (n.) a midsize sport
utility vehicle built for driving fun.
What makes the Xterra fun to drive is its standard features,
safety and performance level. What makes all of that possible
begins with the Xterra’s design. Nissan’s youthful SUV is
built on a heavy-duty truck frame. It consists of a steel-reinforced
ladder frame with full-length box-section MIG-welded rails,
which in turn provide minimum flex, rugged strength and a
solid ride
Another way in which the Xterra speaks to the (sometimes
lazy) disposition of the younger generation is through its
4WD system. It features auto-locking hubs, which let you shift
into 4-wheel drive instantly. You don't even have to get out
of your seat; plus, it allows you to shift on the fly up to
25 mph.
Under the Hood
There are three engines offered with this year’s Nissan Xterra.
The base XE model uses a 2.4-liter inline 4-cylinder model
with 143 horsepower at 5200 rpm and 154 lb-ft of torque at
4000 rpm.
XE V6 models feature a 3.3-liter V6 engine mated to either
5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission. It generates
180 horsepower at 4800 rpm and 202 lb-ft of torque at 2800
rpm.
Top-line SE S/C models provide supercharged power for that
added bit of excitement. Their engine is a 3.3-liter supercharged
V6 with 210 horsepower at 4800 rpm and 246 lb-ft of torque
at 2800 rpm.
The Xterra can also tow things for you. Both V6 modes pull
5000 lbs with an automatic transmission; the 4-cylinder engine
hauls up to 3500 lbs with manual transmission.
Standard Features, Options Packages and Style
A clever seating configuration allows all Xterra passengers
to ride in comfort. The rear seats are raised several inches,
stadium style, to provide a better view of the road and a
more sociable atmosphere. The Xterra’s bump in the roof helps
prevent any head-to-ceiling collisions. The rear seat also
splits and folds down for easier storage.
Uplevel Xterra models feature a 300-watt Rockford Fosgate
sound system specially designed for the SUV. Controlled by
steering wheel-mounted audio switches, the system includes
a powerful internal amp that cuts distortion and pumps out
eight premium speakers’ worth of bass.
To top it off, there’s a full compliment of options for 2004.
