Used 2004 Pontiac Aztek

Buying Guide for the Pontiac Aztek:

The model that invented the sport recreation vehicle category is back, and it loses none of its adventurous ways. Simply hearing the segment the Aztek is part of gives you a hint as to its intentions.

The Aztek is versatile: it lets you go camping in the back country, splash through mud and grime and then, after a quick wash-up, take you downtown. It has a unique design whose functional result is increased cargo capacity. Good for families or active twenty/thirty/forty-year olds, the Aztek certainly doesn’t discriminate among potential customers.

For 2004, the Pontiac Aztek has a new CD/MP3 player, new interior fabrics, new colors and more. In addition, the Rally Edition, first offered in late 2003, also returns for a little bit of heart-pumping fun.

Under the Hood

The engine

Buying Guide for the by the Aztek has to be versatile, and it is. A 3.4-liter V6, it cranks out 185 horsepower at 5200 rpm and 210 lb-ft of torque at 4000 rpm. 4-speed automatic transmission is standard.

The Aztek continues to be offered as a front-wheel drive vehicle or an all-wheel drive vehicle. All-wheel drive models employ the Versatrak system, which directs torque to the rear wheels with the best traction. It will do this even with just one wheel, if necessary, something most of the competition can’t say.

The Aztek is known for its tight handling and control. Its suspension system breaks down like this: up front, Aztek has MacPherson struts fitted with four-stage shock absorber valving. In back, AWD Aztek models use a short-and-long-arm independent suspension designed and engineered specifically for the application.

Standard Features, Options Packages and Style

Azteks are offered in a base trim, though there are two options groups available: 1SB and 1SC. With the latter, a tire-pressure monitor, the OnStar system, upgraded upholstery, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with radio controls, a trip computer and a driver information center are included.

The Rally Edition is a unique Aztek model. It comes in Fusion Orange, Black or Silver Metallic paints and features a lowered front suspension, 17-inch aluminum wheels, a chrome-plated exhaust tip, a front grille that matches the body color, exterior Rally badges, a cargo-area speaker system with separate radio controls, a power driver's seat and Rally-embroidered front floor mats. The special package also comes available with Rally-embroidered leather-appointed seats.
