Buying Guide for the Subaru Forester XT:
The XT is an all-new turbocharged version of the Forester,
adding to the compact sport utility vehicle more power and
better handling. With 45 more horses under its hood, complimented
by the steady gripping of Subaru’s standard all-wheel drive,
the Forester XT takes the line to places it has never been
before.
The 2004 Subaru Forester XT is similar to the rest of the
Forester lineup. It has four doors and seats five passengers
with ease. Like all Subaru models, a great amount of attention
was spent equipping the Forester XT with a comprehensive safety
system. In addition to all-wheel drive, the 2004 Forester
XT also comes with dual front airbags, front side airbags,
front seat active head restraints and antilock 4-wheel disc
brakes.
Under the Hood
The Forester XT splashes through the rain, digs through the
mud and glides over hardtops with its continuous all-wheel
drive application. Beneath it all, the engine powering the
2004 Forester XT is a 2.5-liter, 4-cylinder model that can
handle 210 horsepower at 5600 rpm and 235 lb-ft of torque
at 3600 rpm.
Forester XT’s engine is mated to either 4-speed automatic
transmission or 5-speed manual. With manuals, a special hill
holder clutch is also provided, something that would be of
particular interest to people living in the hilly expanse
of San Francisco.
Translating power into effective, on-the-road displacement
is achieved with standard limited-slip differential. It concentrates
the Forester XT’s increased power and directs it to the surface,
creating a more stable, efficient ride.
Standard Features, Options Packages and Style
The four-door Subaru Forester XT is big for the compact SUV
class. It has a wheelbase of 99.4 inches, an overall length
of 175.2 inches and 64.1 cubic inches of total cargo volume.
Standard features on the loaded XT model include a roof rack,
an intermittent rear wiper/washer, alloy wheels, air conditioning
with automatic climate control, a leather-wrapped steering
wheel, heated power mirrors, heated front seats and an AM/FM/weatherband
radio player with in-dash 6-disc CD changer.
Like Forester XS models, the 2004 Forester XT can also be
morphed into an XT Premium model, or a Premium with leather.
The former adds a sunroof, while the latter decks the inside
in plush leather upholstery.
