Used 2004 Subaru Impreza Sedan
Buying Guide for the Subaru Impreza Sedan:
A little more refined than its sibling wagon, the Subaru
Impreza sedan enters 2004 with a fresh front end and a new,
powerful WRX STi model (2004 Subaru Impreza sedan WRX STi
covered in a separate review). These upgrades are combined
with the already-impressive set of attributes noted on previous
Impreza sedans for a new interpretation of the Subaru philosophy.
Subaru splits two engines across the 2004 Impreza sedan lineup
(three counting the turbocharged WRX STi model). Though varying
in their amount of standard features, one thing all Impreza
sedans have in common is a respectable price tag.
Under the Hood
The base 2.5 RS models has a 2.5-liter, 4-cylinder engine
with 165 horsepower and 166 lb-ft of torque. Up-level WRX
and WRX Premium models utilize a 2.0-liter, turbocharged 4-cylinder
engine with 227 horsepower and 217 lb-ft of torque. Both engines
are mated to either 4-speed automatic transmission or 5-speed
manual.
All-wheel drive is standard across the board. It provides
excellent handling in tough weather situations, or simply
creates a tight feel when the weather is nice and the roads
are dry.
All 2004 Impreza sedan models have dual front airbags and
antilock 4-wheel disc brakes. The WRX twins have additional
front side airbags, limited-slip differential and fog lights.
Standard Features, Options Packages and Style
The new Impreza sedan has a flashy front end that begs to
be noticed. Larger headlamps and a more aerodynamic front
nose set the 2004 sedan apart from older models. WRX sedans
have an aluminum hood with functional scoop and special seats
and trim.
With the base 2.5 RS model, you aren’t given a shabby, bare
bones trim with nothing but a steering wheel and a few seats.
Air conditioning, power steering, cruise control, power mirrors,
windows and door locks, remote keyless entry, an AM/FM/CD
player and a rear defogger are just part of the list.
The extroverted WRX Premium model builds on the foundation
laid by the 2.5 RS, adding an AM/FM/cassette player with in-dash
6-disc CD changer, a power sunroof, heated power mirrors,
heated front seats and a rear spoiler.
