Used 2004 Subaru Legacy
Buying Guide for the Subaru Legacy:
Versatility is the name of the game for Subaru, and the Legacy
is one of their models that hammers this point home with authority.
The Legacy comes in sedan and wagon body styles, both with
Subaru’s standard all-wheel drive system that provides responsive
handling and ensures occupant safety.
The Legacy is designed to strike a harmonious balance between
build quality and ride control. Much less expensive than many
other cars that don’t even offer all-wheel drive, the Legacy
is the one that will keep on driving when the weather gets
out of control.
It may not seem so, but Subaru has been around for thirty-five
years in the American market. Needless to say, they’ve come
a long way. Now cemented in the automotive landscape, Subaru
can go out and do something like offer a special 35th
Anniversary Edition with models like the 2004 Legacy. And
that’s just what they’ve gone and done.
Under the Hood
The engine doing the work this year is a horizontally opposed
2.5-liter 4-cylinder model. It has such features as multi-port
fuel injection and anti-knock capabilities. In the end, the
engine can produce 165 horsepower at 5600 rpm and 166 lb-ft
of torque at 4000rpm.
2004 Subaru Legacy models can be purchased with 5-speed manual
or 4-speed automatic transmission. Manuals have a fuel rating
of 22/28 mpg (city/highway), while automatics get 22/27 mpg
(city/highway).
The Legacy is equipped with rack-and-pinion steering with
engine-speed-sensing variable assist to account for better
feel at different speeds.
Subaru’s all-wheel drive is standard. It automatically distributes
power between the front and rear wheels based on traction
needs.
Standard Features, Options Packages and Style
Subaru continues its safety record with the 2004 Legacy.
All models have antilock 4-wheel disc brakes, energy-absorbing
front and rear crumple zones and daytime running lights.
Front side airbags and limited-slip rear differential are
standard with the 2.5 GT model. Also part of this top-line
trim are leather upholstery, heated front seats, an 8-way
power driver seat with lumbar adjustment and an AM/FM/weatherband
radio with in-dash 6-disc CD changer.
The 35th Anniversary Edition Legacy commemorates
the brand’s rise to prominence in the US. Anniversary models
have alloy wheels, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, dual
power sunroofs for the wagon and a single power sunroof for
the sedan.
