2004 Toyota Avalon Review:
The way Toyota conceives it, 2004 Avalon touring sedans are
rich in luxurious appointments and sophisticated technologies.
Their elegant lines and available 16-inch alloy wheels are
designed to grab your attention. Once they have it, an advanced
VVT V6 engine is there to firmly hold on to your interest
for many miles and years to come.
The Toyota Avalon is the only import-brand 6-passenger sedan
offered in America. It is a model that puts a heavy emphasis
on passenger and driver comfort, as well as quiet and efficient
power production.
It’s also quite safe, with standard dual front airbags, front
side airbags and antilock 4-wheel disc brakes. In addition,
Toyota offers the Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) system with
the Avalon. It is designed to reduce excessive tire slippage
during sudden braking maneuvers.
Under the Hood
The front-wheel drive Avalon uses its variable-valve timing
engine to deliver optimized performance without all the fuss
of a roaring setup. After all, it is about quiet comfort.
The full description of the engine: a 3.0-liter V6 with 210
horsepower at 5800 rpm and 220 lb-ft of torque at 4400 rpm.
It is mated to a 4-speed electronically controlled automatic
transmission, which gives the 2004 model a fuel rating of
21/29 mpg (city/highway).
Consumer Guide has given the Avalon ‘Best Buy’ status for
its overall build quality, efficiency, handling and confident
power. After testing and re-testing the sleek sedan, that
was the only conclusion it seems they could possibly reach.
Standard Features, Options Packages and Style
The Avalon boasts a 105.6 cubic-foot interior. Toyota fills
up the base XL model with such things as air conditioning
with dual-zone manual controls, cruise control, power mirrors,
windows and door locks, an AM/FM/cassette/CD player, a digital
clock, an outside-temperature indicator and more.
XLS models have a higher degree of refinement thanks to the
laundry list of features they add to the base package. Some
of the features that pop out include dual-zone automatic climate
controls, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, power front seats,
heated power mirrors with driver-side automatic day/night,
a JBL sound system, a trip computer and rain-sensing wipers.
If you’re still not satisfied, two luxury packages are offered—one
for each trim. With the XLS, it adds leather upholstery, heated
front seats, driver-seat and mirror memory, an AM/FM/cassette
player with in-dash 6-disc CD changer and more.
