2004 Toyota Camry - Reviews - Buying Guide

2004 Toyota Camry Buying Resources:

2004 Toyota Camry Review:

The Camry, along with models like the Corolla, has established Toyota as one of the premier makers of reliable and affordable smaller to midsize cars. If you buy a Camry, you can literally bank on a comfortable, fuel efficient ride that will last much longer than most primetime TV shows do.

Though the Camry isn’t the fastest car on the road, chances are it is one of the most hassle-free. Rarely do Camrys break down with major malfunctions—more often than not, it’s a matter of fine-tuning certain conditions that occur as a result of normal wear and tear.

For 2004, the Camry gets a shot in the arm in form of more power. The 3.0-liter V6 that can be had with LE and XLE trims gains 18 horsepower this year. In addition, SE models get a new 3.3-liter V6 with 225 horsepower. Both V6s also come with a new 5-speed automatic transmission.

Under the Hood

LE and XLE models can be had with two different engines. The first one, in terms of strength, is a 2.4-liter inline 4-cylinder model that is found in a few other Toyota vehicles. It can be mated to 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission, and it produces 157 horsepower at 5600 rpm and 162 lb-ft of torque at 4000 rpm.

The second available engine with LE and XLE models is the revamped 3.0-liter V6 with 210 horsepower at 5800 rpm and 220 lb-ft of torque at 4400 rpm. This version of the front-wheel drive Camry uses a 5-speed automatic transmission.

SE models are the sportiest of the bunch. Not surprisingly, they’re given a sport suspension system. Under their hood is the new 3.3-liter V6 engine. It pumps out 225 horsepower at 5600 rpm and 222 lb-ft of torque at 3600 rpm.

Camrys have always gotten good fuel ratings, and they’re not about to change this fact in 2004. The worst rating you can get (with the new 3.3-liter V6), is 20/29 mpg (city/highway).

Standard Features, Options Packages and Style

Though it’s not the fastest Camry, the XLE trim is easily the most refined. Inside, you’ll find heated power mirrors, automatic climate control, a JBL stereo with an in-dash 6-disc CD changer, a trip computer and a universal garage-door opener.

The options for 2004 include front and curtain side airbags, a security system and a trunk-mounted 6-disc CD changer.
