Buying Guide for the Toyota Sequoia:
Like the tree from which it gets its name, the Toyota Sequoia
is big and imposing. It’s one of those sport utility vehicles
whose presence you can instantly feel as it pulls up next
to you. You don’t even have to look it all—somehow you get
the sense before it comes into your field of vision.
But the Sequoia is not intended to scare you. It’s just big.
The Sequoia has plenty of interior room thanks to its large
construction, allowing passengers to relax and kick out their
legs. It also lets you carry more than a few goods on the
inside.
Unlike many Toyota models, the brawny Sequoia doesn’t see
any changes for 2004. Still, it continues to offer a very
strong engine, nice handling, plenty of standard features
and interior comfort all around. Oh yeah, and the price is
very good for the full-size SUV segment.
Under the Hood
There are two Sequoia models for 2004: SR5 and Limited. Both
offer a rear-wheel drive configuration or a four-wheel drive

enough now. A 4.7-liter V8, it is able to generate 240 horsepower
at 4800 rpm and 315 lb-ft of torque at 3400 rpm.
Teamed to this engine is a 4-speed electronically-controlled
automatic transmission with overdrive.
All 2004 models have antilock 4-wheel disc brakes and an
antiskid/traction-control system. Toyota offers self-leveling
rear suspension as an optional item.
Standard Features, Options Packages and Style
Other bits of optional equipment that up the safety level
are front torso side airbags and head-protecting curtain side
airbags.
Base SR5 models have front and rear air conditioning with
dual-zone automatic climate controls. Front captain chairs,
a center console, power mirrors, windows (including liftgate
window) and door locks and an AM/FM/cassette/CD player are
also included.
Uplevel Limited models add such things as leather upholstery,
heated front seats, an 8-way power driver seat, a leather-wrapped
steering wheel with radio controls and a trip computer.
Options for 2004 include an in-dash 6-disc CD changer, a
rear-seat DVD entertainment system, rear radio controls and
a rear spoiler.
