Used 2004 Volkswagen GTI

Buying Guide for the Volkswagen GTI:

While Volkswagen Golfs are zippy hatchbacks that get up to speed quickly and handle well in tight situations, they are no match for 2004 Volkswagen GTI models. As the top-line Golf variants, boasting more power and standard features, GTIs satisfy that need for speed that more than a few of us have.

This year, the GTI lineup grows from two models to three. Due midyear is an all-new R32 model. The new R32 has a strong V6 engine under its hood that really allows for some fast times.

But that’s not all. Volkswagen’s latest high-powered Golf will come with standard all-wheel drive. The combination of AWD and high-performance features, coupled with the standard comfort and safety of all Golf models, makes this new entry quite an appealing one. But remember, it won’t be offered until the middle of the model year.

Under the Hood

The engine that separates the GTI from the rest of the Golf pack is a 1.8-liter turbocharged inline 4-cylinder. It revs up to 180 horsepower at 5500 rpm and 173 lb-ft of torque at 1950 rpm. The front-wheel drive GTI is offered with a 5-speed manual transmission or a 5-speed automatic transmission with a manual-shift gate.

Gripping the road with automatic sensors and a full-time stability system, the GTI uses its traction control and sport suspension setups to ensure maximum responsiveness and smooth control.

As its name suggests, the most important feature of the GTI VR6 is the 2.8-liter V6 engine under its hood. It cranks out 200 horsepower at 6200 rpm and 195 lb-ft of torque at 3200 rpm.

6-speed manual transmission is standard with the GTI VR6. For security and control, it has brake assist and an antiskid system.

Standard Features, Options Packages and Style

The GTI is offered as a two-door hatchback. As the top-line versions of the Volkswagen Golf, GTI models have a good amount of standard equipment.

Standard features for 2004 include air conditioning, cruise control, height-adjustable front bucket seats, a center console, heated power mirrors and power windows and door locks. There’s also an AM/FM/cassette/CD player with a Monsoon sound system for your listening pleasure.

A Leather Package is optional for 2004. It adds leather upholstery, heated front seats and heated washer nozzles.
