2005 Used Buick Century Buying Guide

The 2005 Buick Century, Buick’s entry-level sedan, is being produced for the last time. The Century and the slightly upscale Regal are being replaced by the LaCrosse, an exciting new market entry described in another review.

However, for this last model, options continue to be the watchword, with three package options: Custom, Limited and a Special Edition. Each of these packages offers customers exceptional value by combining a number of popular features into attractively priced groupings. In addition, there is an impressive list of free-flow options available as well, giving customers the added flexibility to order individual features if need be.

Under the Hood

The engine under the hood of the flexible 2005 Buick Century is a 3.1-liter V6. It can generate up to 175 horsepower at 5200 rpm and 195 lb-ft of torque at 4000 rpm. The front-wheel drive Century mates this motor to a 4-speed automatic transmission with overdrive, resulting in a fuel rating of 20/29 mpg (city/highway).

4-wheel disc brakes are standard and antilock 4-wheel disc brakes are optional whjile dual-front airbags come on all models. The six-passenger Century is also equipped with Buick's Convenience Plus package of features. This list includes delayed entry and exit lighting, theater dimming, flash-to-pass control, battery rundown protection, lockout protection, delayed locking, an auxiliary power outlet, standard theft-deterrent system and daytime running lamps.

Standard Features, Options Packages and Style

The Base 2005 Century has impressive standard interior amenities that include remote keyless entry, dual zone climate control, power programmable door locks with enhanced safety and lockout protection, a CD player, an air filtration system and power windows. Up one level, the Custom Package adds a six-way power driver seat, cruise control, deluxe illuminated visor vanity mirrors, rear assist grips with switchable reading lamps, color-keyed floormats and trunk cargo net.

The Limited Package, formerly the top trim level, includes leather-appointed seating surfaces, steering wheel-mounted radio controls and 15-inch chrome-plated wheel covers. However, a move to the Special Edition has some special add-ons for inside and out; everything in the Limited Package plus traction control, antilock brakes, chrome grille and rims, wider, lower-profile tires, from 205/70R15 to 225/60R16, a tire-pressure monitor and, inside, dual-zone automatic climate control.

Each package also comes with a number of free-flow options, like the practical OnStar system, cruise control, an AM/FM/CD/cassette player, alloy wheels or an engine block heater, just to name a few.
